Its only a huge cost because it has been sabotaged. 20 years of appeals when it should only take 1 or 2 years is why it has increased up cost. If we streamline the appeals process and only allow 1 appeal per judicial level, than it will be cheaper in the end. Be realistic. Do ypu see that happening in the next years in your judicial system?

very simple. Every execution serves as a deterrent factor for any thug who considers committing murder. Please stop. Deterrence effect is a joke . Get informed and read some statistics. And beside. Family members of murder victims are entitled to get their share of justice they deserve. The vast majority of MVS want the perp to be executed and they should receive what they want for the sake of having closure for their grief. All this justifies the maintenance of the death penalty practice. That's true and I agree with that. But this point doesn't stand when MVS themselves oppose Death Penalty and the inmate get executed anyway. Maybe it is because we as a society derive zero positive benefit from him being alive. Why keep him alive when we can free up a cell for the next criminal. Good point and honestly the only benefit I see coming from DP. But is it worth the huge cost of it compared to LWOP?

I never really understood why men get excuted and women not. We fought for our rights for years. On another note. Why is it that they don't excute women like they execute men. I know there are a lot less women on DR but most of them are way longer there. Even in TX Dutchy reading your words I ask myself why you dont join the frying circus like many other folks here. I like them being so bloodthirsty and funny. I am so happy to be an anti not that "sane"

The only way to get rid of it is to kill it. That's why you hold death penalty and infact you have one of the lowest criminal rate in the world

Piper is a conservative Christian and I am sure many of you won't agree with all of his views. However this blog post should be a kick up the backside to those Christians who believe the goal of punishment is rehabilitation. A mate of mine was very excited about this post. Her friend was a victim of an assault (not a really serious one) but it was a shattering experience. Her friend hated the fact that she was being pressured to forgive the assailant by people who paid no attention to the damage done to her. She thought it was amazing that a Christian leader would write like this I Didn't know Christian doctrine is written and led by Piper :-) I generally referred to the Pope Well, good to know, from now on I will follow Piper's directives

In 2002 the Supreme Court of United States ruled that 8th amendment prevents the mentally retarded persons from getting executed.
Do you support this decision? And why?

The parties have reached an agreement to allow DNA testing and an order was entered by the CCA on June 20, 2012 returning the case to the trial court for entry of an agreed order. You can find the order at Skinner's site (www.hankskinner.org), under "Legal Documents." Essentially, the various biological materials not tested by the defense at the time of the original trial will now be subjected to DNA testing. Ultimately, there will be a hearing within 45 days of the results being received by the parties and the court. kma367 maybe when this is over we can fry his guilty azze. maybe when all is over you could find his azze being not that guilty

This case shows once again that all "MVS care", "closure" ecc ecc debates are only a bla bla bla and that most of claims of DP supporters fall. You said many times "it's a shame the victims family waited so long". I wonder what are you saying now.
Deterrence----> Cake Closure----> Cake
Whats next? ;-)

Shame on Georgia. They have murdered another innocent simply because he was a black man. He was executed because he shot and killed a cop. Maybe Maybe not. That was what some people decided in a room next to court. And on the base of a clear evidence that later became not so clear

State lawyers say his issues have been resolved by the courts and the last-day appeal is just another attempt to delay the punishment. Superstitious and primitive thinking on the part of the State lawyers. Death is not punishment, it can’t be; it is merely insurance that the condemned will not kill again. what about insurance for those who are without criminal records? How can be ensure they won't kill for first time? Lets execute everybody. This point is a nonsense

Richard Lynn Bible died by lethal injection Thursday in Florence for the 1988 murder of a girl in Flagstaff. So funny this barbarism is carried out in a such named city. Florence, where Renaissance humanism and modern civilization has born.

While I salute and plaud this decision made by Kasich, i Wonder how many times the case of this guy has been viewed and re-viewed by courts at all levels.
If "Precise details of that role are frustratingly unclear ", why the hell his death sentence went ahead through all hearings to the point that this guys had to die next week?
Should the involvment of the defendant be clear beyond any doubt? How many courts are necessary to estabilish that the case is unclear? The only thing clear here, is the fact that if the Gov. or the Parole Board needs to spare a defendant after years over years of hearings and appeals, becouse the sentence is manifestly unfair, the whole system is flawed and dp-prone

The judge has signed the orders - the execution date is set for Tuesday 9/13/2011. Now just hoping it holds, and justice is carried out for Bethena and Ron and Beau. I wish you the necessary strength for all that's coming up, Janet. We might disagree on this particular issue but I admire you a lot. Same. And I wish u to feel better and get healed after that all is over

To say an execution is easy.....is to simply ignore all hard evidence to the contrary. This is what the Russian and British murderers said. Yes, people fear death, but still, like when s.o knows he/she is terminally ill, the first phases are denial, anger, fight. The last one is a acceptance. To say that LWOP IS a deterrent...but the death penalty IS NOT a deterrent......takes and incredible lack of reality Most people dont think about th DP when they commit crimes.Because THEY will not get caught! The higher the risk of getting caught the higher the deterrence. Tell me.....how many murderers ever killed after being executed? Because this question is kind of a strawman. Tell me, how many people cause heavy car crashes after having both legs copped of? Or, how many people continue stealing after having a hand amputated? It just doesnt follow that we, as a society, should or need to do such drastic things to reach our goals of retribution and safety. Katiuscia, you need to get used to the fact that deterrence has always been a very important moral playground for people supporting death penalty. Killing a murderer in order to prevent another potential murderer to commit the crime= Saving a human life. In recent years these folks have been told and shown over and over that CP has NO deterrence effect, by lets say 99% of reports and analysis, they aren't yet ready to leave this moral ground to justify death penalty. So: Killing a murderer in order deter potential murderers to commit the crime= Saving a human life.just became: Killing a murderer to prevent him from murdering again=saving a human life. Funny, isn't it? You put into the debate very good points, but they won't get answers. Reports and studies also have shown that Death Penalty has a huge cost compared to LWOP. I would like these supportive guys tell me why this money can't be used to improve security standards on the streets and better prevent people from committing their FIRST murder. How many get killed by an escaped/paroled/LWOP convicted murderer compared to those killed during robberies, assaults, gangfights? Katiuscia deterrence is a joke, but these folks need it to remember to themselves they dont belong to the frying cyrcus

Sorry, You don't seem to be We are, definitively This is job of judges and tribunals. Politicians provide laws against crimes, they aren't called to spend any word to "condemn" crimes. On the other hand, their job includes to protest against other governments, when they aren't respectful of human rights. How so? Google some numbers about our crime rate. This stAtement is a nonsense

no LWOP prisoner could EVER be granted clemency unless agreed to by the victims family. Remind me what actually happens in Iran. As usual you are more likely to watch what happens in backdated and repressive countries than evolving your standard of deciency and joining modern western democracies where you should belong
And in response, I would say that I would be willing to guess that I have spoken to more murder victim survivors who have had their perpetrators executed than most and I have never had one person tell me that it didn't help them in some way. No one.
Agree, but i guess that it helps because all the troubles all the appeals and everything comes to the end. The nightmare is over, and that's it. But my question is if it's the DP itself that creates that. Isn't better LWOP for Murder Victims Survivors and have some peace without going through everything that comes after a DP sentence?
