All I can do at this time is do a big sigh of relief. To the Ertmans, Penas and to our very special, brave Char Yes, me too - a big sigh of relief that at least this one part can be over - they will never have to fight to keep cantu in prison. Hoping for comfort for the Ertmans, the Penas, and Char and all their loved ones and friends. Prayers for peace for Jennifer and Elizabeth, precious girls.

There has got to be something we can do through the legislature to fix this broken system. It should not have taken SEVENTEEN YEARS to return a defective carbon unit to the Manufacturer.

Let's hope that everyone hurt by these events finds some peace. Can peace ever be found??? I would never find peace if my daughter were murdered. There are still three that someday might get paroled. I am not a pacifist like you Ben. I can only hope that this scum got a wince of eye contact with one of the dads and felt his sorrow and hatred and that's the last thought he had in life. Not saying you are wrong in how you feel but saying I could NEVER fell that way.

Finally over. I just got home. He had no final words, no expressions of remorse like his two co-horts, but that is not very surprising.
What I saw on the faces of the Ertmans and the Penas was pure relief. You can call it closure if you want or you can reject the notion of closure but the end result is that they feel much better tonight than they did this afternoon. I have seen this many times and no one could ever convince me that there is no benefit to victims from an execution.
Good riddance.

From the idiots at change.org:
"Cantu and his family are victims of a racially biased, unjust, inhumane and vengeful justice system."
1. "Racially biased?" Let's see. The first target that evening was a girl with the surname of Peña. She had an Hispanic last name and a very pretty face with hispanic features. Her killer, Cantu, had an hispanic surname as well. Cantu had hispanic facial features and spoke English with a Spanish accent. Someone help me out here with the racially biased aspect of his execution. I'm not making that connection somehow.
2. "Unjust?" Excuse me? We live in a republic, not a military-junta-run dictatorship. If Cantu's form of punishment were unjust, it wouldn't still be on the books.
3. "Inhumane?" This allegation on this part of change.org makes me physically ill. When you compare the manner in which Cantu left this planet (falling asleep) with the hour-long torture session that he helped to inflict on his two victims, the "inhumane" call on the part of change.org seems to be a direct slam on the victims' families, explicitly designed to hurt them.
4. "Vengeful?" It was already in the law. If you do A, the penalty is B. Cantu knew this up front. So how is his execution vengeful?
Conclusion: The people at change.org need to take some courses in logic. Currently, they are not only displaying a complete lack of logic, they take it a couple of steps further.

As far as racial bias goes, racism goes every which way, so to me, racism is not an excuse for anything, to be used by anybody. He could have been very racist against Ertman.
Good to see this execution took place. Terrible that it takes any longer than a year to go through the trial, including appeals. And that he gets a pillow and bed to die on. Not a very fair trade-off.

There has got to be something we can do through the legislature to fix this broken system. It should not have taken SEVENTEEN YEARS to return a defective carbon unit to the Manufacturer. The Streamlned Procedures Act of 05 would have shortened the appeal process. However, few supported the bill and it was quickly tabled. That is precisely the reason why murderers spend 17 years - in TX mind you- on death row.

I want to join my voice with the general satisfaction of the board from yesterday's conduct of justice and law enforcement. At this precise moment, the dirtbag, Peter Anthony Cantu, is on his way heading to hell where he will burn and roast there forever. Texas again has proved her obligation and loyalty for the murder victims' survivors, and for the rest of the honest and decent law abiding citizens in the world.

I thought that Texas adopted a LWOP measure a while back for the 17-year-olds where they couldn't be eligeable for parole? I hope I am not wrong. If I am, why not push for deportation if they are paroled or drop them off in a desert with "only" their clothes on their back and no money and see if they survive. If you are old enough to work or "drive a car" then you should be old enough to get the death penalty. Sixteen should be minumum age if you are not retarded. Leah

Leah Well, as I said before, IF they ever get paroled the best thing will be to pull a bullet through their heads, just as they exit the front gates of prison. Indeed, I'd enjoy very much the scene of the bullets breaking their way straight through their heads, and the strong current of their blood streaming on the ground, just in front of the prison.
