Hey there. I was wondering if any of you guys knew any metaphors and similes that deal with being pro capital punishment/death penalty? I need this info for a speech I am presenting in class. If any of you guys can help me or provide me with this info, I would greatly appreciate it. For a quicker reply you can email me at dorota453@sbcglobal.net . Thnx for your time.

We execute the murderer for the same reason we put down a rabid dog.
How's that?

Perhaps you can look at some of the signatures or the members of this board, but ahem they may not be really suitable for an academic assignment
I am going to plagarise someones though
"All of us are sentenced to die, murderers require a quicker exit"
Sorry, I would have given the board member credit but i cant remembe rwho you are

i know that the dp is 100% detterent...no on ethat has been executed has EVER murdered again...thats a cute one because the job of detterence is to detter individuals, not all of society...
and plus, no one can refute that point...

I can certainly refute the need for it. It is merely killing in order to save the system making changes it can and should make.

I disagree.
When a criminal has committed brutal, vicious murder s/he has proven that they have no respect for human life and should never be trusted amongst us anywhere inside or outside of prison again.
My daughter's murderer has ordered others to murder (and they did), has murdered for revenge, and has murdered to keep people silent so that they could not disclose the fact that he had already murdered, and all of these in a premeditated, depraved execution style. The world is simply a bit safer if at least this one particular criminal is no longer on this earth. I don't think anyone could say that he could possibly be the only one either.
Like Joseph I have looked into a murderer's eyes and seen the hate for others that can be there, and it IS truly chilling (well, I guess that word approximates the feeling; it is really hard to think of one that would truly describe what I felt). I have stood for 2 days in an ICU watching my daughter die from her horrific wounds, witness to his handiwork on this earthly plane. He no longer needs to inhabit it.
100% guaranteed when/if that day of execution comes that he will never, ever do this to any other family on this earth. No other penalty is 100% guarantee; murders of CO's and inmates simply DO happen in prison, even if they never escape. I would fear for the other non-violent offenders he might eventually be around someday and the CO's if he were not on DR and executed.
To Dorata45, I have no idea if this is what you were looking for, but it is how I feel and what I know from the horrifying reality of murder that has bombed its way into our lives.

Thanks for your help, do you guys know any rhetorical questions based on the death penalty? How about: how many must die before we acknowledge the existence of evil and expire murderers accordingly?

How about: how many must die before we acknowledge the existence of evil and expire murderers accordingly? How about proving the actual existence of pure evil? Can't be done, Joseph.

How about proving the actual existence of pure evil? Can't be done, Joseph. I doesn't have to be done. Evil exists quite obviously in its manifestation in murderers. You simply have to see the human condition as it really is, instead of being fetishistically addicted to your own utopian pipe dreams.

well, pure evil is simply evil with no influence of good...
similar to light and darkness...darkness is simply the absence of light, light is a reaction, and darkness is the natural occurence.
the same is true for heat and cold...heat is a reaction to something, a form of of energy changing forms. cold is the natural that requires no energy...space is cold, but when heated by the sun, it becomes not so cold...it takes energy to create heat.
evil is the natural occurence, where good is a reaction to something, anything, so evil is essencially the absence of good....it takes energy to be good.
at it was said, "evil prevails when good men do nothing......."
but if a good does nothing to stop evil, is he still a good man?

If I understand you correctly, you are saying that evil exists "naturally" but good does not? I believe exactly the opposite. I believe that good is what is natural, and evil happens when one distances oneself from good. Good is order, harmony, balance. Chaos is evil, but I don't think it's possible for total chaos to exist.

Chaos is evil, but I don't think it's possible for total chaos to exist. Good and evil are both natural. Everyone's born with both. The moralist ascribes the terms "good" and "evil" to two of the four conjoined aspects of the human psyche, which is light and shadow, feminine and masculine. The person we describe as "evil" has overidentified with, and is in the vise-grip of, his/her shadow.

hmm....
interesting way to view the choices that people make...
i think that people are born with a sinfull nature, with little inclination towards good. this is due to the countless lives i have seen that are changed and do change day to day. a contributor is also the fact that i see many people daily that choose to do good, and conversely, choose to do 'not good.' also, i see many children, and i have raised children, and never once have i been required to teach the kids to, 'not share,' or to say, 'mine!' or even 'NO NO!'
but i digress....
opinions of HOW good and evil exsist together is not the central fixation. i choose to do good. i choose to be nice to people. i choose, i choose, choose...
i think that is what the main issue is...

thank you sir... coming from you, i believe this could be in the top ten of received compliments... You're too kind. Keep up the good work, AmericanCitizen. Those that believe people are only good and have to be corrupted by an external force are dangerously naïve. They are also quite condescending and flippant to those whose loved ones have been slain by murderers. SkyLoom, for instance, doesn't believe murderers are that bad. She says with a little love and kindness, they become reformed and can be trusted never to kill again. I know that's hard to believe, but this kind of thinking is prevalent among those opposed to capital punishment. They can't bring themselves to believe that evil exists in the world. They insist there's no distinguishable difference between people who murder, and people who don't murder. Thanks for being pro, AC. It's good to see people here with common sense.

ook you guys are definatly out of your minds! Actually, I have been officially certified sane twice. In addition to that, for most of my life I have held a security clearance that required me to be regularly observed for any aberant behavior. We shoulodn't and we don't. We execute a few murderers to pursue justice. That is the least we can do for murder victims. We also get some additional benefits. Yes, but not for long. It is such a trite saying.
