Usama is still alive. Or do you have any other information? Bush is still alive. For information leading directly to the apprehension or conviction of Usama you'll get a reward of $ 25 Million. For information leading directly to the apprehension or conviction of Bush you'll get NOTHING. Have a look at: www.texasobserver.org/showArticle.asp?ArticleID=480in fact Bush is a serial killer, he kills/killed in his own country and in many other countries. But he is mentally retarded. He is only the pawn in a game. He smoked too much weed during his teenager years. There are a lot of mentally retarded on DR. And I think he would be best placed there.

I don't usually correct people's spellings but since I was raised by Gandhians, it really bothers me when people misspell his name: it is Gandhi not Ghandi.

Google: 2'150'000 matches "Ghandi" ? Those sites are also misspelling his name. Take my word for it. Like I said, I was brought up by Gandhians and even spent one summer in a Gandhi "boot camp" for young 'uns. My grandfather made me read all of Gandhi's writings. I was taken to South Africa to pay homage to Gandhi's ashrams there. I took a seminar in Gandhian philosophy in graduate school. So, if there is any word I know how to spell correctly, it is G-A-N-D-H-I. I wouldn't have corrected you ordinarily but if Gandhi is indeed your political hero (as he is mine), you should know how to spell the man's name. Go to amazon.com and do a search for Gandhi. You will get 100s of books. You can view the jacket covers and see for yourself that his name indeed spelled (gasp!) Gandhi. Try this link first: secure.serve.com/resist/Html/Images/gandhi_auto-b.JPG

Mother Theresa, MLK and Gandhi were all heroes. Pacifism is a good idea, but it doesn't really work these days. Gandhi was working with the British, who actually have common sense. But nowadays the terrorists will not negotiate, they will not surrender, they will fight to the death. Violence is the ONLY way to deal with terrorists. Do you really think they would care if Bush went on a hunger strike? I'm sure if Gandhi saw today's terrorists, he'd pick up a gun himself.

Hi,
Gandhi didn't work "for" the British. He was a bright and cute little devil! What he did was work "on" the British, when, at the end of WWII, we were about as broke as India was.
In essence, he satisfied us India would not become an enemy, that it would become a friend. He played on our sense of fair play, banked on India's sense of fair play, and demonstrated it would be far easier and far cheaper all round if we both got to do our own things in own ways.
And, by some miracle of joint patience and good humor, incredibly, that's how it has all pretty much turned out.
Of course there are things we constantly bicker about, the selling and buying price of tea to start with, however there are loads of other things we agree on all the time; like cricket and curries.
But, best of all, India understands the British sense of humor, and Britain understands the Indian sense of humor, and with an empathy like that you can't go far wrong can you.

I have no moral objections to the death penalty itself (which makes me a de facto supporter, I suppose), but I wouldn't go so far as to call myself a "pro".
* I think the process is like a toilet that hasn't been cleaned in ages: it gets the job done, but you wouldn't want your mother to come over for a visit.
* The process is far too cumbersome and visits additional turmoil upon the families of the victim(s) (and I include the perpetrator's family in the "victims" category provided they were not knowingly and/or negligently complicit in the crime(s))
* At best, it's a necessary evil. It's like pooping. You have to do it, and boasting about it is rather childish.

It's like pooping. You have to do it, and boasting about it is rather childish. Your attitude typifies American squeamishness in the face of evil. You want the "job" done, but you prefer that someone else do it. It's this apathy that will kill capital punishment, for better or worse. I wouldn't call the death penalty a necessary evil, either. There's nothing evil in a righteous punishment. If you really do think the penalty itself is evil, and not worth a defense, then don't say you're in favor of capital punishment. Capital punishment isn't anything to be squeamish about. I talk about it with my coworkers all the time. An execution may not be palatable to most people, but neither is the butchering of livestock. Most people eat meat without the least bit of shame. Why are we so hesitant to give a murderer the punishment he earned? Some day we'll stop this game of charades with execution methods and go back to hanging murderers in the street, the way the Italians did with Mussolini. Retributive punishment works, if performed with sincerity and verve.

Felix if you were a pacifist, then why all this display of aggression.I simply aggreed with Joseph. Your attack on old time religion has nothing to do with wanting justice to be served. If your an Anti or Pro,it is a personal decision, not religious one.
Anti's will always appeal toward sympathy for coldblooded killers, where as Pro's will not.If you are a pacifist Felix, just lay down and let the murderers live.
Personally I think they need to be stopped and done away with.I'm a Pro and always will be.

Humans have far too many other motives and issues, and invariably they get tangled up in and contribute to their presumptions about what is justice. The DP is a great outlet for someone who is basically just angry.

Contrary to popular belief, it has never been STATISTICALLY proven in the last 50 years of this country that an innocent person has been executed. It is mostly speculation and the media, not to mention twisted "facts" by the abolitionist movement. Movies like THE GREEN MILE and TRUE CRIME heavily influence this. The abolitionists love to post "possible" wrongful executions with no evidence that person was actually innocent. Most people that are released from death row are guilty as well, and are turned loose due to legel issues. You have your right to your own opinion, but please do not fall into the belief that innocent people are always the ones being released from death row.

Humans have far too many other motives and issues, and invariably they get tangled up in and contribute to their presumptions about what is justice. The DP is a great outlet for someone who is basically just angry. I'm not an angry person at all, Felix. Never have been. I can promise you one thing though, if one of my children or my husband (or anyone that I love) were ever murdered I'd be angry as hell. I'd want that murderer dead. It would drive me crazy knowing that my child's murderer could be somewhere, anywhere, breathing, eating, laughing, smiling, joking, visiting with family, writing letters, receiving letters, playing cards, showering, getting haircuts, etc. for the rest of his natural life. The DP is the only justice that would satisfy me. Thus, I could never deprive another mother the justice that I would want for myself. I am not a hypocrite. A dead child is a dead child. It makes no difference who the murderer is, or how many victims were murdered by him, or whether the victim(s) were tortured, strangled, shot, mutilated. Not to me. On the other hand, there are MVS on this MB who have had loved ones murdered and they do not want the DP for the murderer. This I can understand. They should be against the death penalty for any murderer if this is what they believe. And from what I can tell they are. They are not hypocrites and for that reason I respect them. Very much. So, Felix...Anger has VERY little to do with my support for the death penalty. It has more to do with empathy and an attempt to imagine how I would feel if suddenly someone I loved were to be murdered. So many of the victims discussed here daily could just have easily been one of my loved ones. I try to imagine what Janet (she's the one that comes to mind) goes through each and every day since her beautiful daughter was murdered. I then think "Would I want him dead?" There isn't a doubt in my mind that yes, I know that I would want him dead. This does not mean that I love my children more than anyone else. Antis love their children just as much as I do. I know that. We just have different opinions about the DP. No need to insult each other by calling one a pacifist and the other angry......Lisa
