That doesn't prove the DP doesn't deter crime, it only proves that the states with the DP are more violent. Wouldn't it make sense that the more violent states have the DP? The reason why DP states like California and Texas have higher murder rates is because of all these illegals entering the country and bringing drugs, violence and lawlessness along with them. Most DP states also have a higher percentage of blacks and other minorities, which account for a large percentage of crime. Not trying to sound racist, but it's the truth.
Also, Michigan (my state) does not have the DP, but strangely, it has a higher murder rate than Texas, Virginia, Oklahoma, Missouri, Florida, and North Carolina.

If anyone had a definitive answer to this--one based on causalities and not co-relations--we would not be even having this debate. There is very little consensus on the relationship between the DP and crime rate. No one can conclusively claim that crime goes up/down/stays the same because of the DP. Plus, it is never a simple one-to-one correspondence (ie. DP exists therefore the crime rate goes down). A host of other factors (population density and diversity, gang culture, policing, blah blah blah) cumulatively determine crime rates.

i have no idea about statistics and wondered if due to dp your crime rates have gone down Crime rates in general are not substantially afffected by the adequate use of the DP. Murder is the crime that is most affected by adequate use of the DP for murder. There is only one state that uses the death penalty just barely enough to have a visible impact on murder rates. That is Texas. Michigan, a state that has not had the death penalty since 1846 is the best state to compare with Texas. Since the use of the DP was restored in Texas, the murder rate has dropped substantially. The DP has dropped in Michigan as well during the same period, but not nearly as much. The demographics of Michigan and Texas are similar, although con-control laws in Texas are less stringent. The DPIC murder rate comparison is a good example of the dishonest use of statistics. Many of the so-called DP states don't actually use the DP and most of the rest use it so infrequently that it could not be expected to have any visible impact. The time frame was also obviously chosen to provide the best looking numbers for the anti-DP position. That is a common method that people use when they want to lie with statistics.
