Michael Gonzales graduated from Notre Dame High School in June of 1981 and was murdered in August of 1981.
Michael had a good life, was loved by his family and many friends. He was not affiliated with any gang and was not a drug user. He had just registered to attend the local college in the fall and was working full time at my father and grandfather's automotive shops.
On the night he was murdered, Michael stopped at the shopping center and was using the pay phone to speak to his girl friend.
While on the phone five men blocked his car and stabbed him to death.
Before they murdered him, he was kicked, punched and had beer bottles thrown at him.
The Riverside police found the five men. They varied in age from 14 to 19 years. All were convicted for their crimes.
The excuse was they were looking to jump a "redneck" and spotted Michael and his car with big tires. One individual, Rene Pacheco is now up for parole. He was 21 when the murder was committed. He was convicted of second degree murder and given 15 years to life. His parole hearing is set for the last week in August.
Please write and help this family keep this murderer in prison.

I am writing to let you know that parole was denied for Rene Pacheco. Our family would like to say thank you for everyone's support. At the hearing for Pacheco, we presented over 1,000 signatures we collected and the numerous letters we received from Michael's relatives and friends, community members and support from Citizens Against Homicide. We are deeply touched by everyone's support. The man will not be eligible for parole for another two years. Thank you.

I'm so glad. Letters work and 2 years is appalling.
