Please send this to a newspaper in your area. Editor: I am writing to you about a situation that I found on the internet that is quite disturbing, an inmate on California’s Death Row is freely selling pornography on the internet under the guise of “erotic art” all it take is one second viewing it to realize what it is that is really being sold. I am well aware of the court rulings regarding inmates in prisons and Internet websites, however that ruling does not extend to the sale of pornography. Allowing this to happen is not only disgusting but it is dangerous as well, the website which this inmate, Melvyn Turner, peddles his pornography on has no age restrictions therefore any minor child can go to this website, view and purchase his “art”. It is one thing for California to fail its citizens by not imposing the court ordered punishment of this and other offenders but irresponsible that the state continues to endanger the public (i.e.; children) by allowing this inmate and maybe others to sell this on the internet. I have contacted the California Department of Correction and Rehabilitation in regards to this matter but I think it is something that the public should be made aware of hence my reason for sending this letter to you. The Website address for this material is ccadp.org/melvinturner-artwork.htm, Sincerely,

«I'm fairly sure that if they took all the porn off the Internet, there'd only be one website left, and it would be called Bring Back The Porn.» -- Dr. Cox
This website endangers the public? A tiny blurry photo of a drawing on which the "explicit" parts are blacked out? Tsk, much ado about nothing. It might be a different issue if Turner was a rapist murderer who paints sick sexual murder fantasies à la Trawick, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Yawn.

In case you are NOT being sarcastic I have to say that your thoughts is absolutley horrendous. He shouldn't have the freedom to sell his wares and frankly he shouldn't have the availablity to draw anything outside of pencil drawing on poor quality paper and that wouldn't go outside of his cell. He is on DR!! Just because his crime wasn't sexually motovated who says he isn't a sexual pervert? He could have become a sex murderer if he weren't caught for this one.

There is nothing "horrendous" about my thoughts. Nothing else to worry about, Jamie?
I don't share your desire to make people suffer, regardless what they have done. The conditions on death row are restrictive enough - if painting helps to keep them occupied, let them do it. They are incarcerated and the public is protected from them. That's enough for me.
He isn't any more likely to be a sexual pervert than anyone else. I'm not saying I like this kind of "art", but I fail to see what's so dramatic about it. No need to get overexcited.

When someone goes on DR they should not be allowed to con the general public with their scams. Murderers should have to sit in their cell and think about what they have done, not paint pictures and write novels about their hurrendous crimes explaining that they are the victim. This makes me sick
