Just a question: In Californias web-site one can click to the prisons. I can see all the inmates in death-row on a PDF. In there you can read about the inmates and also about court.
What does it means by "affirmed". Is that when they have done all their appeals and all are turned down? And that´s it? Nothing more to do and they have to wait for a date to be executed?
We don´t have death penalty in Europe so.... just asking

affirmed probably means just that, In Texas it is decided at arrest, if you are black you are in serious trouble with the racist morally bankrupt systsem of justice in the States. My advice, dont visit the USA.

Hey Birgitta, A decision is affirmed when it is held by the appellate court that the decision of the trial court - for example the imposition of the DP - is correct. In most American states, following the imposition of the DP, the decision is automatically appealed to a higher court. Not that it helps that much. In recent years, the extreme right-wing Bush administration and the Repbublican majority in the Senate have carefully selected similarly right-wing, pro-DP political hacks to sit in the federal courts. At state level, many judges are elected, which tends to favor the pro-business, pro-DP , anti-environment Republican conservatives who get the most campaign financing. Bottom line: If you're poor and black, you're more likely to get the DP than if you're rich, white and a good Republican. Just a question: In Californias web-site one can click to the prisons. Hey Doc!
I do not understand your position on anti americanism...Being critical about the way a system works in a country doesnt necessairly mean that youre against the whole country? I do not take offense if people have criticism about the Netherlands as long as they have good arguments. I dont think any of the Europeans posting on here are anti American, they just live in countries where the death penalty doesnt exist anymore and wonder why the country that thinks of itself as very just and progressive still does. Swedish Blonde is making good arguments I think (whether or not you agree with em is a different thing) so why call her Anti American?

Bottom line: If you're poor and black, you're more likely to get the DP than if you're rich, white and a good Republican. Oh, you mean like OJ and John Gacy? Oops, that can't be right. The white millionare Gacy was executed and OJ wasn't even convicted. Perhaps you can give some examples that support your theory. Perhaps something along the lines of the percentage of poor black murderers who are executed compared with the percentage of rich white murderers who are executed.
