kind of a simple self-correcting problem.
could also be moot, are there states still hanging?

kind of a simple self-correcting problem. Not really, there is simply too much room for technical error. Hanging has to be done just right to insure that death is instantaneous and painless. For example: the guy in the video on the left was hanged properly, while the guy on the right was not.

no, I get that. 'self correcting' means don't do what it takes to get on death row. but here in utah, we've had three firing squad executions in the last 43 years. four 30 caliber slugs to the heart from 17 feet leaves little room for error or lingering death. seen one. still these guys put themselves on death row. they could have easily not done that.

Been a long time since I made an entry on this site. Just thought I would add to the discussion, by mentioning the Pierrepoint family. I think that they are the only family to make some form of "career" out of hanging people. The father (Henry?) kept a weights and measure book on his hangings which he passed onto Britain's most famous hangman Albert. I think it was called the 'long drop method'. Henry was fired because he liked the bottle too much! There was a feature film made about it, called Pierrepoint. Probably available on YOUTUBE.

So, if you were a Nazi war criminal who was sentenced to hang you'd best pray to God that Pierrepoint was going to be your executioner rather than that bumbling idiot Sergeant Woods----who botched numerous executions.
