Are there any legal eagles here who might know if a convicted felon can possess a big bore air rifle to protect his home in Texas? (Be advised that I am not a convicted felon and have no criminal record. I am merely seeking information.)

Not an legal eagle here, I believe they can have a regular "gun" for protection in their home only, if they have been out of prison for 5 yrs or off probation for 5 yrs. Living in TX, that is what I was told, not sure if true.
Or even if that applies for all or depending on the individual's crime committed to begin with. ?? Not sure
