The subject is basically my question.
I would assume that police would investigate cases, lay charges, and then hand their results over to a DA.
I guess I'm asking, do DA's have their own investigative teams, after charges have been layed.
I think I watch to many crime shows on TV.

The DA did have an investigator on staff. But looking at who testified in the trial, I believe the police did the vast majority of the detecting.

Technically, I don't believe they do...
However, in ascertaining if there is sufficient evidence to proceed with charges, or a trial.. they can do their own investigation.
Marcha Clark...the DA who screwed up the OJ Simpson trial so miserably wrote a book.
Investigation can be a part of their job, if they doubt the accuracy of police reports.

Yes, but it only happens in special cases. Most of the investigative work is done by police. But if the DA thinks an investigation by the their office and their agents would be appropriate and not cost-prohibited, they can conduct their own investigations. This is taken from my state's code: nxt.legis.state.wi.us/nxt/gateway.dll?f=templates&fn=default.htm&d=stats&jd=top978.047 Investigators; police powers. The district attorney of any county may appoint such investigators as are authorized by the county board, and the county board may abolish the positions at its pleasure. The investigators when so appointed have general police powers within the county.

Thank you for your replies.
To be honest, I'm not sure what we do in Australia. I know there is a system that looks at major prosecutions, before trial.
