My son has to do a paper of DP vs. LWOP. He wants to write to two prisoners doing LWOP, two on DR. I am EXTREMELY uncomfortable with his doing this--I really do NOT want our address, let alone his name, floating around prisons. WHat do you think?

It would be unwise. But if he must, perhaps it would be best for him to write to a murderer-rapist of women. Than you wouldn't have to worry about your son becoming prey for the murderer or his friends. You might also consider temporarily renting a PO Box. I remember that when I was a boy I sometimes did things that my mother told me not to do. It would be relatively easy for him to initiate a hidden correspondence, the most dangerous kind. I would also suggest independently researching the case of the correspondent. You might want to consider having him contact one of the Carr brothers whose DP crimes are described here: abcd.freewebsitehosting.com/Wichita/WichitaPretrial.htmlTheir lawyers claim that they were victims of society. Cooley in Ohio is another prospect. He claims to be another man now, as they often do when their execution date approaches.

Thanks for the link. I printed it out (68 pages!) and will read it tonite. I think I will rent the PO Box. He said if I let him do the project (the correspondence is optional, it can be done without the 1st person account) he'd LET me read the letters. I have news for hiim, if I rent the box, I have will have SOLE acess to it and wil read the letters first, IF I let him do it.

To hell with that, just dont bother to do have him do. The only grades that count are 10th and 11th those are the only grades collegse look at. If you son is in one of tho egrades I would express your concern to the teacher, if he isnt just od part of the project.

The only grades that count are 10th and 11th those are the only grades collegse look at. Actually that is a myth. Colleges look at senior year grades to. In fact last year UNC Chapel Hill refused admission to a student they had already accepted because his GPA went from 3.8 to 3.5 his senior year. Still a good GPA, but apparently UNC didn't like the fact that he slacked off his senior year.
