Hi, i am also in honors english just like Genivive, and i was wondering if i could get some help with my debate on the death penalty. I have most of my points on why we should have it; it deters crime, no innocent people are killed, and the country cares about our safety. I need more support on the no innocent people are killed one...there is only stuff about how they are killed. i have a few statements supporting it but I really need some more. If you don't think that is a good point, do you have any suggestions on what else i could use? Thank you so much in advance for anyone who tries to help me, i appreciate it so very much.

If the execution of an innocent bothers you, even if it's only one in a thousand, then you can't support capital punishment.

Joseph, this was a student"s request for help with her paper, she never said how she felt one way or the other. Can you please try to refrain from debating in this section.

this was a student"s request for help with her paper, she never said how she felt one way or the other. Can you please try to refrain from debating in this section. I was helping her. She was about to make a fatal mistake on her paper. She stated her paper indicated the following: I have most of my points on why we should have it; it deters crime, no innocent people are killed, and the country cares about our safety. The fact is that no justice system is perfect, and an innocent person will someday be executed, if it hasn't happened already.

The fact is that no justice system is perfect, and an innocent person will someday be executed, if it hasn't happened already. Surprising. Most of the pros don't think innocents have been executed, or at least, none was ever prooved. Do you really think that in the FUTURE, still, innocent people could be executed ? DNA stuff, new criminal technologies, etc ... aren't going to prevent such potential mistakes ? Are you pessimistic about that ?

Contact the Innocence Project. They claim that there are hundreds of innocent individuals on Death Row and I am sure they would love to help you.

Surprising. Most of the pros don't think innocents have been executed, or at least, none was ever prooved. Those pros are stupid. Given time, even computers make mistakes. The administration of criminal justice is a human enterprise, from the start of an investigation all the way through to an execution, and every step in between, and people make mistakes. That there's been proof of an innocent being executed doesn't mean it hasn't happened. There is a strong cultural and legal pull in this country not to second-guess jury verdicts or the evidence that backs them up. If the purpose of justice were truth, we'd be investigating murders even after convicts were executed. The courts don't order such investigations, for good reason. Do you really think that in the FUTURE, still, innocent people could be executed? The answer to that question would be "Duh." DNA stuff, new criminal technologies, etc ... aren't going to prevent such potential mistakes? Of course not. If anything, it's going to increase them. Faith in technology to protect the innocent isn't warranted. DNA evidence is easily faked, misinterpreted or used to frame an innocent person. Scientists are human, and scientists do get it wrong sometimes. If you need proof, look at Albert Einstein. Are you pessimistic about that? No, I'm not pessimistic, because I am not the one demanding perfect justice before committing to a defense of capital punishment. The legal standard is beyond a reasonable doubt, and that kind of certainty is all human beings have a right to claim. Innocents will be lethally injected, just as they were electrocuted, just as they were hanged, or decapitated. We try the best we can, but we aren't perfect and never will be.

Thanks for this honest answer Joe. It's not going to defend the DP, but at least you're honest ! But I think I'm more optimistic than you by the way. Do you really think the DP will survive if the innocent sentenced to death are going to increase as you think ??
