Robert Charles Comer has been executed at the Arizona State Prison in Florence, marking Arizona's first execution in nearly 7 years.
The 50-year-old died via lethal injection at 10:11 a.m.
He had been sent to death row for a 1987 crime spree at a campground at Apache Lake east of Phoenix.
Comer and then-girlfriend Juneva Willis invited a fellow camper, Larry Pritchard, to their campsite for dinner. After they ate, Comer shot Pritchard in the head with a .38-caliber revolver.
Comer forced Willis to look at Pritchard, telling her, "I'm a cold and callous killer."
Comer’s Last Meal Request
Fried Okra 4 Buns
Butter (lots)
Salt (lots)
Banana Bread (2 slices)

Inside Daybreak Wanting to Die If there was ever a classic case for the death penalty, it was Robert Comer. There was never a doubt Comer was the man behind the 1987 crime spree which put him behind bars. He stole a truck in California, telling his girlfriend he'd killed the man who owned it. He then came to Arizona, murdering one man, stealing his car, then kidnapping another couple. He raped the woman multiple times and left the man in the desert for dead.
Witnesses testified to it during trial. There was physical evidence. Comer never bothered denying it. Instead, he spent his time behind bars making weapons and attacking other inmates, threatening dozens of others, including guards and reporters who came to his cell door to tell his story.
Perhaps the only redeeming thing about Robert Comer is his willingness to accept his final punishment. He wants to die, and it's only the effort of anti-death penalty groups which has kept him alive this long.
Death Penalty laws in this country are designed so that, despite any shortcomings in our criminal justice system, no innocent man shall ever be put to death. It has been a real concern, given the number of death row inmates who've been released, some of them after serving decades in prison. DNA evidence has exonerated most of them, and has shown the weaknesses of our courts.
Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas points out, however, that there should be limits to the appeals. Especially in a slam-dunk case like Robert Comer. Thomas, who advocates capital punishment and has shown a fervent willingness to seek it, points out that no one is claiming Comer's innocence. There's no doubt he received a fair trial and was sentenced fairly under Arizona law. Which can only mean one reason for the appeals: a basic opposition to the death penalty itself.
There might be some who view the appeals process as a form of civil disobedience -- objecting to the law by challenging it at every opportunity. Yet, one has to wonder also about respect for the law and respect for the victims. I've always been puzzled about death penalty opponents unwillingness to meet the victims of crimes and to experience their view of justice. Moral decisions should not be weighed in a vacuum, and one should only take an absolute position with absolutely all of the information at hand.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family of those murdered by the POS. No their pain will never go away, there is never really any closure put they don't have to think of this POS taking up space anymore. ============================================== All those anti's who said they would be out there in force, Well what the hell happened? There was about a total of 20 of you. Guess Comer wasn't sick enough for you. It's over and done. No need to worry that he will ever kill again. His last words, what a joke. Instead saying sorry or anything meaningful, he says "Go Raiders" What a POS, but a dead POS [glow=red,2,300]NEXT!!!!![/glow]

(why can't I get the font bigger!? ) Yeah, about 20 Redd... And they were well behaved.....prayed a lot..... I'm sure they were praying for Larry Pritchert OK, there were only about 20 of THEM.... NOW....were were the Arizona pro-dp folks...? Before Comer became "room temp" , a couple of cool young guys from the ajoining town of Eloy stood with me....they may come on board here... I'll admit, I was a bit dissapointed in the pro-dp showing. I was "gang-banged" by about 17 reporters....I'll admit, they seemed fair in their questions. So glad I went, cost me a half day's pay, but there would have been NO ONE to represent the murdered Larry Pritchert, or Jane Jones...(not her real name, she's still alive). George Williams aka "Arizonavet"

I even wondered if he had been pardoned....at the last minuete......but when I saw the anti-dp group praying, I figured it was over....next time, I'm taking a small radio.

Wow, ArizonaVet! You've inspired me to do the same. Next one in Texas, I'm there. It's only 1-1/2 hours away from me. I'd be proud to show my support for the DP and more importantly, the victims. Thanks for giving me the incentive to do the right thing. Who's next in Texas? Anybody got any ideas for the sign I make?

Thank you all, so much Y'all have been in this fight long before myself... I thought I would be standing among at LEAST a dozen pro-dp'ers, outside the gates at Florence. When I found out I was the only one there, and I was taken out into the desert, at least 2 miles away from the prison, by the State DOC....I was very dissapointed....then 17 reporters descended on me....alone! If it had not been for my "education" in the last few months on this board, I would have been decimated....I feel/hope I did well. Then, about 9:30 AM, (after the reporters had left) I asked to be taken back to the corner, outside the gates, on the opposite side of the anti's... They complied. If y'all ever do this, I figure some have.....personally, I'd listen to the DOC folks....they are basically on OUR side...but be ready to assert yourself too. I now have a picture to post

I couldn't read your link onetwobomb. The print was too small. What happened to the "Scheduled Executions" section? It used to show more future dates. Now I can't find anything past May.

Wow! Well done AzVet.
Just FYI to anyone who would like to show support at their state's next execution, in Georgia, the bigger anti rally on execution eves (here, they're done in the evening) is at the State Capitol. Fewer go to the prison. So you might want to try going there as well, particularly if it's closer to you.

If you are using Internet Explorer, try moving your mouse cursor off the picture and then moving it back on. There should be a square that comes up in the lower right corner. If you click on it it will make the picture bigger and easier to read. Here's the scheduled executions page: www.tdcj.state.tx.us/stat/scheduledexecutions.htm There are 5 executions in Texas in June.
