Fug you're really not looking at the reality, you're talking from your own morals and experience. Criminals generally don't think the way that you do, the things that matter to you, they don't care about. It's often generation's of similar behaviours .

The last execution will end when there are no more murders. So I don't see happening anytime soon.

The death penalty will be around forever...oh wait, you aren't talking about vermin who kill because they can't figure out how to make a real living so they have to rob...then kill so there aren't witnesses are you. You're not talking about evil people who sell drugs to other people who can't control their urges and kill to protect their drug territories. You aren't talking about people who grab little kids off the street so they can do utterly horrible things to them and kill them to keep them quiet. Death penalties happen all the time with evil people being judge, jury, and executioner; and the appeal process for the victim is "Please don't!!!" Oh, and by the way, josephdphillips alluded to it. With Muslims here, it may not be so preposterous that Shiria law become part of the American landscape and adultery, blasphemy, and homosexuality could be reasons for the death penalty. And they would laugh at International Amnesty and any other groups who are against the death penalty.
So the death penalty will always be with us. Legally or otherwise.
