This seems to be a fairly common sentence in China. I'm inplacably anti but would have a hard time arguing with this. If someone has a death sentence suspended then transgresses again it's difficult to defend them. Nothing will change my mind about the Dp but for those in favour of it this is worth consideration I would suggest.

This means the court hands down the death sentence, but suspends it, right?
I've never really understood the value of a "suspended" sentence. Does it mean the person is free to go? What would cause it to be actually carried out?

I think it's a deferred death sentence, wherein if you endure prison with a clean disciplinary record for 2 years, the death sentence may be lifted. Somebody clarify?

From what I read from a German newspaper it's suspended for two years and after that you'll get something between 25 and life. The reality seems to be that you're out after an average time of 18 years. I don't know how you have to behave in these two years to avoid the DP but it seems that it isn't too hard: apparently nearly a 100 % of those with suspended death sentences will not be executed.

Well China does like to execute people like Texas does so I have a hard time thinking that a country like that would be suspending death sentences. How does one get a death sentenced suspended anyway?
