Death Row Inmate Wants New HearingA man on death row in South Dakota is asking for a new sentencing hearing so he can show that a new relationship with his son and grandchildren is reason not to be executed. Lawyers for Rodney Berget filed documents last week requesting a new sentencing hearing. Berget was sentenced to death for killing prison guard Ronald Johnson in April 2011. The state Supreme Court overturned Berget's death sentence, ruling that the circuit judge improperly considered a statement Berget made to a psychiatrist. Berget now wants a completely new hearing in front of a jury. He says he has established a "meaningful relationship" with the family members. South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackly says Berget already waived his right to be sentenced by a jury. www.kdlt.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=24623&Itemid=57

He should be able to have as meaningful relationship with his family as he allowed Ronald Johnson. What is it about these killers that think they deserve more than they gave their victims?

I agree with you Moonbeam, unfortunately they still live and have more rights it would seem than the victims in their grave I posted this earlier on Facebook: The murdered dead cry out for justice in our courts but cry in vain for a life cut short and soon forgotten except for those left behind to mourn for a loved one lost. A life seems to have no value whatsoever within our legal system and little thought is given over to those who suffer the loss of a son, daughter, mother or father. They serve their own life sentence and its for life with no parole or pardon. To add to their grief they may well see the killer(s) released and back on the streets with cash handouts. Justice? What justice.

Ronadl Johnson had children and grandchildren also. I'm sure he would have loved to spend more meaniful time with them. If he is given a new sentencing hearing I think this should be brought up!

He should be able to have as meaningful relationship with his family as he allowed Ronald Johnson. What is it about these killers that think they deserve more than they gave their victims? I assume it has something to do with the fact that they believe that they have been redeemed and deserve a lot more because of it. Despite the fact that their victims will never have a relationship with their family members again.
