A guy walked into a police station, to confess to Laci's murder. Was soon determined to be fake. Tried to impress his girlfriend, but she got worried that she may be murdered and contacted the police.
A big hoax it seems. Will post the actual article, when I find it again.

This is what I was sent:-
Last week we were informed of an individual who was detained and questioned by police after he claimed that he murdered Laci Peterson. It was determined he had no involvement with the Peterson case late today.
After being detained the man recanted his story, said he had been drinking, and was just trying to impress the woman he was talking with who was having issues with her husband.
This is the good part...
He figured that if the woman thought he could get rid of her husband for her, that she'd sleep with him that night.
Guess he didn't figure the woman started to worry that he'd end up murdering her, left the bar, and called police.
Definitely a candidate for America's Dumbest Criminals.

Well, it's not the type of thing I would do! Could be a big fine for that guy.
Then again, how desperate would you have to be.
Would patting a koala or a kangaroo make a woman more receptive. We've got heaps of them.
My more cynical side, thinks, is it keeping the case in the news? The recent Geragos interview, or the insurance money.
Reckon this case is going to linger for a long time.

Since he was so anxious to falsely confess to a crime,I can think of no single reason why the autorities should be any less anxious to punish him for the crime. If he wants to be a killer treat him like 1 and strap his arse down.....1 less moron for police to deal with in the end.

Ditto Gurney, theres nothing about poor Laci and Connors' murder. Anyone can do such a thing or confess as prank is sick; this wacko needs to be watched closely.
In a related incident, the new owner of the Petersen house "found" a THE knife. He's already scouting tabloids to see who'll him top dollar for his story and pix of the knife. Police are testing the knife, they 99% sure its fake ( more like a sick publicity stunt ). Personally I think the guy is sick for buy the house.

Law Enforcement folks will tell you this sort of thing happens all the time. The more high profile the case, the more whacko's come out of the bushes.

Shaka, read that knife story. Police believe that they could not have missed it, so the testings of the "blood like" stains on it have been given low priority.
Either it was always there, or a very insidious 'plant'.

Exactly, this was a high profiled case, the cops went over that house, garden and neighbourhood with a microscopic toothcomb. As I said it's a very sick publicity stunt, but what you expect from a ghoul that would knowingly buy that house.

I believe the knife story is bogus, but the salesman-realtor who brought the Peterson house will $$profit$$ from these tabloid stories and possibly from the murderobilia market if he can auction this knife off. Here's the latest on the knife nonsense. www.firstcoastnews.com/news/usworld/news-article.aspx?storyid=40327As far as false confessions go not only do some wackos think they can become celebrities by confessing to murders, but some people fall apart during police interrogations and confess to horrific crimes. The linked stories below are that of a man who falsely confessed to killing his 3 year old daughter and a teenage boy who falsely confessed to killing his sister. snipurl.com/g8i4www.crimelibrary.com/notorious_murders/not_guilty/coerced_confessions/6.html?sect=14

Shawni, If that is sick, then what about the person who bought Dennis Rader's house yesterday. Rader is the confessed BTK killer.
It got 30% above the appraised price.
It was purchased by an 'exotic dance company'.
I can't even think about what type of dancing will happen in that establishment!

Don't forget that they also try to present themselves as great lovers of humankind. I guess they think that they get extra brownie points for fighting for the life of a 'misunderstood' person on DR. To do and say this in the face of the daily horrors that humans undergo worldwide baffles me.

He's a piece of human garbage. How in the world are his wife and kids coping psychologically? I wouldn't be surprised if this knowledge of their husband and father drove them nuts...Too bad Kansas can't DP him instead of LPWP.
