If you look at my current avatar, you will notice that the excutee has a strap over his forehead that prevents him from raising his head. I have heard that some states use a similar head strap, and I have heard that in certain states, the execution team is given discretion as to whether to use the strap. I have no idea if that is true. Does anyone know of any state policies or procedures addressing head straps on a lethal injection gurney? Does anyone have any thoughts about whether head straps should be used?

I think a head strap should be used in all cases.

I often read in execution reports about the prisioner raising their head to see their family or supporters, so I would guess a head strap is not usede all the time.
