The condemed have no rights anymore. They gave them up when they murdered.
All executions should be right out in the middle of the prison "yard" - and it should be hanging or electric chair. All completely televised of course. "We the people" are doing this and "we the people" deserve to see what we are doing! Let's make sure the deterrence part is functioning properly! Oh sure, all the inmates will be laughing, but you can bet *your rear* that when the lights go out, they will not be laughing...

The condemed have no rights anymore. They gave them up when they murdered. Such a concept would probably never happen in the U.S.

Here are some ways to improve the death penalty:
I also have been reading up to find out the New Jersey, New York, and New Mexico banned their death penalty because of budget cuts, the economy and furloughs, that is stupid!
1. Shorten appeals. If there was an autopsy done and a complete DNA match to prove it, there should only be three appeals at the most, not 500.
2. The gas chamber is expensive, environmentally hazardous, dangerous, and very time consuming to set up and then do the lengthy clean up after an execution. It should be banned.
3. Instead use the electric chair (according to the novel Death Row Confidential it costs only 31 cents per execution compared to $300,000 to build a gas chamber uninstalled, and $250 per pellet). Other options can be the noose, guillotine, firing squad, or lethal injection as long as if there is a manual back up protocol if the computerized equipment fails.
4. Give victims more leeway during clemency hearings.

What do you think landed this person on death row? They murdered someone, and you want to give them choices. You're kidding right. This person deserves a Russian execution. A cell, a drain hole, and one right behind the ear. No family, no witnesses, no nothing just darkness. I said that the family members have the option of attending (up to ten). I never said anything about the condemned having the option of loved ones/friends watching. Any "options" are for the state or the surviving victims.

1. The inmate shall have previously had the option of killing or not killing. If he chose to kill, he gets no further options on anything, except his final meal, which shall have one item on the menu: exactly what the rest of the prisoners are having that day.
