Mississippi executes Holland; second in 2 days.PARCHMAN, Miss. (AP) - Gerald James Holland, convicted for raping and killing a 15-year-old girl, has been put to death by lethal injection at the state penitentiary. Holland was officially declared dead at 6:14 p.m. Thursday. It was the second execution in Mississippi in two days. Earlier Thursday, Gov. Haley Barbour refused to grant clemency and Holland's final appeal was denied by the U.S. Supreme Court. Holland was convicted of raping and killing 15-year-old Krystal King in 1986. At 72, he was the state's oldest death-row inmate. Paul Everette Woodward died Wednesday for his 1987 conviction in the rape-slaying of a 24-year-old woman. The last back-to-back executions occurred in 1961, according to the Mississippi Department of Corrections. www.wlbt.com/Global/story.asp?S=12517972

Holland apologizes in final momentsCondemned inmate Gerald James Holland apologized to the family of his victims in his final statement before being executed. “I want you to know I am sorry,” said Holland, who blamed his actions on alcohol, despair and his temper. Earlier in the day, Corrections Commissioner Chris Epps said Holland had accepted his fate. At 6:14 p.m., Holland was pronounced dead. The victim’s family showed little emotion during the execution. Holland's attorney Steven Orlansky visited with him at 3 p.m. and shared with him that the governor and U.S. Supreme Court had rejected his requests to avoid being put to death. Epps said Holland requested a sedative before being executed and was given a Valium. Orlansky was Holland's only visitor today and he made no telephone calls. The commissioner has indicated he will make a statement and possibly read Psalm 23 when given the opportunity to speak at his execution. Holland told correctional officials today that he regretted what he did and believes God has forgiven him. Authorities said Holland raped and killed 15-year-old Krystal Dee King of Gulfport in 1986. Holland’s attorneys asked for a stay in papers submitted to U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. Gov. Haley Barbour earlier today said he will not grant clemency to Holland, the oldest inmate on death row. For his last meal, he had a 14 ounce T-bone steak, baked potato, brussel sprouts, salad, apple pie and a liter of Pepsi. Epps said Holland ate most of his last meal. Holland has donated his body to the state and he will be buried on the prison grounds. Epps said Holland made no telephone calls Wednesday or so far today. He was allowed to have visitors from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., but no one other than prison Chaplain James Whisnant has visited with Holland. www.clarionledger.com/article/20100520/NEWS/100520014/2nd-killer-executed-by-Mississippi

Justice been done - it was overdue !
Blessed is the victim - sometimes I loose faith in the lord - that the "almighty" allowed this crime to happen !
