Victim’s family infuriated by prayer vigil by Alicia Castelli April 19th, 2010 AVON — Family members of murder victim Angel Vincent walked out of a prayer vigil Sunday evening at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church after her uncle became angry that the vigil’s prayers were in opposition to the death penalty. Angel was raped, kidnapped and murdered in 1988 by Darryl Durr, who is scheduled to be executed for the crime Tuesday. She was 16 years old at the time. Her uncle, 52-year-old Richard Rodriguez, who said Angel lived with his family for a short time, angrily confronted the vigil’s organizers, Daniel Briehl and Barb Hornbeck, when the vigil included prayers against the death penalty and prayers for Durr’s soul in addition to prayers for victims of violence. Julie Boschetti, 37, of Elyria was a friend of Angel Vincent, “Angel was my best friend. I’m here because Angel needs a voice. It’s not fair that this man has sat here for 22 years,” she said … “Do you even know what you’re saying?” Rodriguez said as the other seven family members with him and a childhood friend and her father got up and walked out. Outside, Rodriguez further expressed his anger. “They care more about him than they care about Angel,” he said. “I believe in the Bible. That’s something the country’s getting away from. It’s supposed to be what we’re governed by in our lives. The 10 Commandments, an eye for an eye … the Old Testament and the New Testament, and even the church doesn’t believe it anymore.” Briehl, a board member of the Catholic Action Commission of Lorain County, said his religious beliefs preclude supporting the death penalty. “We pray for the perpetrator and the victim as well as the families, too,” he said. “This is not our first (vigil), and it won’t be the last one because Ohio seems to think the death penalty is the thing to do.” Hornbeck said she cannot support an “eye for an eye” philosophy. “We’re using the same method that he used [Really? I thought we were using a lethal dose of sodium thiopental -- not strangling the bastard], and that was wrong so this is wrong,” she said. “I don’t condone the state using my money to kill people. It’s against my religious beliefs.” Julie Boschetti, 37, of Elyria, said she was best friends with Angel as a child and was at the vigil to “be a voice” for her friend, despite the prayers for Durr. “What happened is not right nor is it fair that this man is still here,” she said, adding she believes Durr should have been put to death years ago. The prayer vigil literature mentions victims and their families, but mentioned Durr by name, something else that bothered Angel’s family. “(Durr) is a monster,” said Angel’s Aunt, 51-year-old Sharon Brewer of Vermilion. “He won’t even admit what he did wrong. I’m looking forward to seeing the end. I just want people to remember Angel and not feel sorry for Darryl.” The family plans to attend Durr’s execution and was not swayed by the vigil’s anti-death penalty agenda. “This execution is way overdue,” said Angel’s Uncle, 60year-old Wes Brewer of Vermilion. “I’m damn glad we’re going.” Biehl, Hornbeck and Adrian Griffin, the Northern Ohio Organizer for “Ohioans to Stop Executions,” quietly finished the prayer vigil. The confrontation was the first Hornbeek or Briehl had ever experienced during one of their vigils. They both said they understood the reaction by Angel’s family. “They need our prayers and this is one way to support them and I know they don’t see that right now,” Hornbeck said. “Your heart just goes out to them. … I do believe, however, that all people have a basic right to be alive, and the only one who can take that away is God.” chronicle.northcoastnow.com/2010/04/19/victims-family-infuriated-by-prayer-vigil/

Sadly opposition to the death penalty is all these people (Hornbeek and Briehl) can see.

The state should chop-up Durr's dead body and mail piece to everyone at his vigil.

Man, the thug lovers are on the warpath. Googling around the internet, I see they are on the attack everywhere. And because they are azzholes, their usual target is the victim or the victim's family.

Here's an example -- some a-hole said this to the sister of one of Hood's victims: Why are you filled with such hate and vengeance. My aunt was murdered twenty years ago as well and my family turned it over to God. We’ve forgiven the man. We certainly don’t want him to die! “An eye for an eye puts the whole world out.” You actually sound more like a scorn lover. Is it true what people say you and Mr. Hood were having a love affair and that’s why you hold such anger and hostility towards him??? It’s really the only thing that makes since. He’s served his time. You even tried writing him in prison and he refused your letters. I hope you do have your day in court and ALL the truth comes out. She may have been warm like sunshine but you on the other hand or not. Have you ever even served one day in a jail cell much less twenty years. I pray God doesn’t judge you as hard for all of your infidelities for you would be spending twenty years in hell! I’ll look for you at the penalty trial. You know there are two sides to every story. I think it’s time the truth, all of the truth came out. Are you ready for that…Big Sis? Do you think Tracie, who was as warm as sunshine, would really want him to die? It’s YOU holding this grudge, YOU fueling the fire. Why? Hasn’t justice already been served??? The man has served twenty years in prison…TWENTY YEARS!!! Possibly could there be something wrong with you “Big Sis” and your concious. Is he paying for your guilt? Where were you exactly when she needed you? Where were you when she was strung out on drugs ripping her clothes off on the dance floor? He was there. He was her friend. You were not! Stop trying to be so self righteous! Let’s get one final thing clear… he has NOT abused the system! He’s merely survived it! Something I doubt you could ever do but your day is coming. Don’t worry in this life or the next you will get all you have coming to you, so be ready. Twenty years is long enough for the truth to be buried. The system of God will prevail! After all that’s what Tracie would want. That’s who this is about right? Tracie…not you!!! goo.gl/wt5a For the record, the victim's sister never met Hood. In fact, the victim only knew Hood for a brief period and he was no friend to her. The victim was busted with some coke and did a diversion program. Big deal. She then met her boyfriend, Williamson, who was adamantly opposed to drugs. She quit the club, moved in with him, and was going to go back to school. Shortly before she was murdered, she told her sister that she was frightened of Hood and that Williamson was going to tell him to move out of the house.

I did see that a friend of hers started a facebook page for her but I can't remember the name or web address. I believe it may be the young woman mentioned in the article at the vigil. Bet she would have one. Here it is: www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=41236779921&topic=13642The friend's name is Stefanie Clover.

I am starting to feel that the most irritating people in that country are those anti death penalty protesters, they are more irritating than murderers Really?? You don't think that's a bit of a jump there??? So given the choice of having lunch with an anti or a murderer, you'd choose the murderer? ;D We have this thing in the US called free speech. I know you're not used to that, coming from Singapore and all, but it really is pretty great. If it annoys you, then you probably wouldn't fit in so well here.

So given the choice of having lunch with an anti or a murderer, you'd choose the murderer? ;D Absolutely. There is nothing more boring than an anti. And disingenuous, too. I've lost count how many times I've heard from antis fat yaps that we are worse than some child raping murderer because we support capital punishment. It's so great that maybe you should take the time to learn what it means because it is clear by your inappropriate response to Justice you don't have a clue.

I would rather have lunch with a murderer, even they at times admit to guilt and sometimes even speak on victims behalf, "many" extremist anti's will just cry how cruel and unusual the poor baby, and had a tough life.

Sorry, I should've realized that "antis are more annoying than murderers" really means "those particular antis mentioned in that article need to be more sensitive to murder victim's families." Silly me.

I'm just saying, if someone thinks that having a dissenting view is more annoying than cold-blooded slaughter, maybe that person isn't ready for a place where all kinds of dissenting views are permitted (unlike the 'pore.) I'd hate to see Justice have to be so annoyed all the time. And hey, if that's the way you feel, I as an anti would rather you have lunch with a murderer than myself as well.

Yeah, well, people are saying antis are worse than murderers (or at the very least, worse lunch dates) because we don't. This particular anti has never called anyone worse than a murderer. Ever.

So because she's angry at him the only thing that makes since (really should be sense) is she was having an affair with him. So the sister shouldn't be so angry but it's fine for this person to be angry at the victim's sister. So because she wasn't always there for her sister it's her fault what happened to her. What was she supposed to do follow her around and watch over her? And somehow this person has the authority to forgive her aunt's murderer. The victim's sister shouldn't be self-righteous but it's okay for this person to be. This person must have a special phone line to God.

The victim's sister shouldn't be self-righteous but it's okay for this person to be. This person must have a special phone line to God.All just my opinion here of course, but you've made some very good points Stormy. I don't expect that person has any phone line to God (and know that you don't really expect they either). It does sound like they have a whole pile of displaced anger stewing in themselves though. There is so much rage after murder (I called it my "black rage" it was so strong it actually frightened me, I had never felt like that before), and that is a natural human reaction that is to be expected. It has to go somewhere, at something, in order for it not to eat ourselves up - but I don't understand how someone can say they are better for forgiving the murderer, and then spend so much of their lives absolutely in vindictive rage with everyone who doesn't think the same as them. To me at least, they have just displaced the anger from the murder, and displaced it onto people who did not commit murder. Like I said, just my opinion from knowing many MVS of many beliefs through the years. I know some MVS who have tried to forgive, keep having to try over and over as triggers are set off that bring up all those angry feelings again, but are very sincere in it simply as their own belief and do not attack others for feeling differently. And those I know who don't attack others are also respectful of my right to feel differently. Wouldn't it be better if each MVS were able to pursue the path that would help them as the individual person they are, without others telling them what they "must" do to be "good", blech on those sorts. And thank you for your post Stormy

Let's see this person is telling the sister of the victim not to judge him but has no problem judging her. Apparently she doesn't think he should even have to serve the rest of his life in prison. Poor soul. And thank you for your post Stormy You always have a superb way of putting things.

Yeah, well, people are saying antis are worse than murderers (or at the very least, worse lunch dates) because we don't.
This particular anti has never called anyone worse than a murderer. Ever.[/quote]
I rather you antis have lunch with Osama Bin Laden

May I ask your reason for joining?

I rather you antis have lunch with Osama Bin Laden Definitely depends on the meal. If he invited me to a meal at Arabia Fried Infidel I wouldn't say no. You gotta be open to different cultures.

I'd have lunch with ya, and real lunch, not a sissy salad and baked fish. The murderer, on the other hand could have the fish, blowfish, prepared by Stevie Wonder.
