The Oklahoma jury that took three hours to convict Terry Nichols of first degree murder for 161 non-federal employees that perished in the Murrah building in 1995 has deadlocked 7 to 5 on the sentence. In Oklahoma a DP sentence must be unanimous. This means the DP is off the table and the judge can only sentence him to life with or without parole. This is a meaningless distinction since he is already under LWOP based on Federal prosecution for the murder of 8 federal employees in the same bombing.
Personally, I agree with the life sentence. Nichols was a conspirator but not the leader. In the end he did not set the bomb and wasn't even near the area when the explosion occurred. Allegedly he got cold feet but failed to stop McVeigh.
Let him rot in supermax. Save the DP for the actual killers and their paymasters.

Cool. And this meaningless sentence cost Oklahoma taxpayers a mere $5.2 million. Pretty cheap compared to the $13.8 million paid for McVeigh's defense.

I think it's pretty sick even if he set the bomb or not that he should be given the DP, what are we realy saying to other people? Are we saying it's ok to kill people that didn't do anything to them. What is this going to teach our children, I have a 9 year old son that asked me why this man could kill 161 people and still be allowed to live. I mean realy think about it for a minute, we have homeless people in this world with most of the time nothing to eat or sleep but yet you have this jerk that helped kill 161 people and he has 3 meals a day and is living in a jail cell with a bed. I'm sorry I don't think that's fair at all! TEXT
