All, I am going to need your help again very soon with respect to the parole of my nephew's murderer. No sooner than I posted my "thank you everyone I received my letter parole was denied", I received the following email from James' mother: "I received notice yesterday that Mr. Santos Solis was denied parole. Thank you once again for your efforts and bringing a voice to this process. Of interest, you may remember that he had been in some trouble which delayed the most recent review for parole. He apparently tested positive for marijuana which caused him to be put on a lower level for a period of time.""Denial of parole was what we were hoping for but at the same time Mr. Solis was also issued a Serve All. This means he must serve all of his sentence through his projected release date. As required by the Mandatory Superivion Law he will be released on Mandatory Supervision on his projected release date which is May 29, 2010. He, however, falls under the Discretionary Mandatory Law - HB 1433, so he will be placed in mandatory review before he will be allowed to be released. This is a bit confusing so for those of you interested I will add detail below but for now, please know that his parole was denied and that I will likely be sending a request for letters once again in fairly short order." "In my conversation with Victims Services I was told that Mr. Solis will be Placed in Mandatory Review (PIMR) sooner than later. This review process is very much like the process for review for parole but with a quicker turnaround. I suppose we are fortunate to have one more opportunity be a voice in this process because this case met the requirements of HB 1433 that requires a review before the projected release date." "Please know that while this review must occur - without compelling reason not to do so he is most likely going to be released. So, while he will have served 4 1/2 years in prison he will then serve 5 1/2 years on Mandatory Supervision. His projected discharge date from Mandatory Supervision is October 11, 2015. Serving just 4 1/2 years is not a reality I'm anxious to accept. At the same time, he is going to have to keep out of trouble for 5 1/2 years and he will have conditions placed on him during that time." "I am not certain the degree of influence, if any, our voices will make in the decision regarding what conditions are placed on him. Regardless, I plan to include conditions that I think merit consideration by the Parole Board at the time Mr. Solis is PIMR." "I am looking at the poster photo of James announcing the 10th Annual Lake Whitney Spring Classic as I write this note to you. He loved announcing and as you know was the "Voice of Village Creek." You all have been his voice and I just can't thank you enough."God help us.

We are going to have to write more letters. I plan to do some research on format for this particular type. Petitions are good, but they need a separate piece of paper to deal with and read for this kind of thing. I am so angry my eyeball is twitching.

Thanks Kings and the Broker. I will keep everyone informed as things develop. I really appreciate the support in the meantime. It makes me feel good to know that there are people who care. and people who think criminals should serve long, hard sentences ...

Pip, I know I'm not an American, but just say the word and I'll put pen to paper in a scathing protest against Solis' release.
