Hope you're all well and Dia Dhuit ('Hello' in Irish) from this side of the Atlantic)
Was in my friend's house last night watching one of my all time favourite films with a superb all time cast. I love each and every character in it. You probably know it 'A time to kill'. It's one of the few films that pros and antis will like because of the nature of the storyline.
However, here's my question. Did Samuel L. Jackson deserve the death penalty? Remembering he murdered two men and took the law into his own hands? Or did the two men (Keifer Sutherland's brother) deserve the death penalty?
After all, killing is killing no?

After all, killing is killing no? no now since you're probably going to disapear for the next 6 pages like last time, why don't you start out with your in depth view on it. and then perhaps actually come back and argue that position

That's unfair, I've been busy, lost my job (due to the financial recession) and didn't get a chance to log on. The Tipsy Broker: Are you? What part are you going to? Yeah the scenery is nice alright and we don't have an accent, you guys do lol!! Friendly people? I'm not sure, they're more nosy than anything else. I can't wait to get out of here to be honest. I want to live in the States (and stamp out the Death Penalty lol). I've applied for my greencard and waiting to hear back. I lived in New Jersey for a few months a few years back and loved it. Right on the beach, it was gorgeous.

Waterford's gorgeous, famous for its Waterford Crystal. It's very picturesque.
Yeah I'd like to see the Southern States of America, I can picture it like the real old dusty dessert bars and a bit of tumbleweed floating by hehe....and some old man sitting outside chewing on straw.
Although I'd be afraid I'd get wrongly arrested over there and I'd end up on the Electric Chair...:-(
Erm, would you................would you all write to me on Death row? ;-)

It's a complete rip off, beautiful but there's nicer, like John Rocca Crystal. I'd strongly recommend going to see Dunmore East in Waterford, it's stunning. Really rugged, with waves crashing in on the cliffs, and tiny little houses with balconies overlooking the cliffs. Gorgeous.
Hmmmm, I dunno now, what if I get framed? :-(

Hello Shin,
Back to the topic, could you expound on your statement, that "killing is killing". Are you saying, there are absolutely no circumstances, in which you would consider taking a life?

Self-defense is the only way a person can take another life without (hopefully) going to jail or recieve the DP if proven that you were indeed defending yourself or others.
Vigilantes go to jail.

I think you could add in defense of another Lauren, for example a police officer. And what of soldiers and Marines during war time?

Very rugged coastline, always lots of trawlers being lost around that area. Dunmore east accross the bay is very picturesque also, you could get the small ferry from arthurstown with a car accross saving you having to go in New Ross to get around it, or if you want to hire a chopper fro around 1800 euros per hour for three hours I can show you a quick aerial tour of the south coast all 150 miles of it.

Also, I believe war is a completely different situation. I don't think it falls under the normal self-defense, because in war, not only are the soldiers and Marines defending themselves, and their partners, but also their nation. I know there are war criminals, like Hitler, who kill needlessly, but normal soldiers and marines, I think are exempt from this whole conversation only if they are following the rules and are not pulling a Hitler.

I know there are war criminals, like Hitler, who kill needlessly, but normal soldiers and marines, I think are exempt from this whole conversation only if they are following the rules and are not pulling a Hitler. This is the very reason this topic is debated again and again. It is not easily defined and must be reviewed for each individual case. Then, the review is open to interpretation and counterarguments can be made for self-defense, etc, etc. Hence the different categories: murder 1st degree 2nd degree, manslaughter - voluntary, involuntary. Now add in time of war and you have a completely different point of view depending on which side you are on. Is it classified as civilian casualty or does it fit into one of the categories above? However, to answer the second initial question No As for the first question, I will need to go home and watch the movie again. On second thought, it is Mother's Day - maybe my wife would like to pick the movie.
