what are people's opinions of sharia law execution of kids, where people can be executed for what is termed crimes against chastity? By that, I mean, kids as old as 9 can be executed for refusing to be married and have sex with adults?

I am against Sharia "law" entirely. There is no appeal system adressing anything above a village elder or whatever.

Frankly, I doubt that any member here would put forth any type of argument in support of this kookery.

Slide on over to the Prosecute torture thread and find who does and does not support Sharia law; specifically the support of those that practice this law.
Elvis, you might need to change your comment from any member to most members - just a suggestion.

What a crock!! The Muslim community in England are trying to persuade the government to let them have Sharia law over here.
If we're not careful, Britain will soon become a Muslim state.
This government is already bowing to the Muslim faith over Christianity. Quite frankly, it scares me.
Anybody know where I can buy a bhurka?

I haven't read that thread but I find it difficult to believe that sympathy for folks being tortured equates to supporting this crackpot law.

I suppose if we were torturing individual offenders who have actively practiced this morality law and murderered their own child, I could see your point.
I'm sure there are more than a handful of Christians who think homosexuality should be a capital offense. Maybe even more who think being an abortion doctor is worthy of a home-made death penality. A few kooks have even followed up on this.
I'm not in favor of torturing Christians, though, even for the one's who harbor those kooky beliefs.
But hey, I could be wrong. Maybe someone will step up and lecture all of us about the benefits of morality laws and enforcing them with DP.

Sorry, my aggravation from another thread has carried over here. Yes, religious zealots in the US; Westboro Baptist Church comes to mind. Thank goodness for the PGR!

I just found it doing a quick google search to try to see how these nuts connect anti-homosexual and anti-military together. I found this link. I skimmed it, laughed a bit, and realized that I had no interest in finding out how these crackpots connect all the dots of their kookery together. enjoy uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Westboro_Baptist_Church

I would think most of the pros on this board would support it - in past debates on other countries and their DP laws, it has been firmly supported that other countries have the right to execute as they see fit. Furthermore, great offense is taken when foreigners suggest that American states that have the DP should get rid of the DP. From my experience with DP folks, it doesn't seem to be the why that counts, as long as there is a nice execution in the end.

Classic answer! Seriously, there is no way to justify an execution of a 9 yr old kid. In short the law is a pile of monkey crap. Does that help?

Anyone can disagree till the cows come home about Iran's execution of homosexuals, or Singapore's topping of drug traffickers, but it doesn't matter what we think. That's the law, and presumably that's the way the people in those countries want it. Respect for these laws isn't required. Of course, anyone is free to try and make a convincing moral case against them, or even one based on the argument of last resort - international law. In general this will be duly noted, and then ignored, by the country in question. This is nonsense.

By that, I mean, kids as old as 9 can be executed for refusing to be married and have sex with adults? Is that true under their laws, or is it an exaggeration? I understand they stone women and teens for morality crimes such as adultery, but do they in fact lawfully stone 9 year old girls for refusing to marry or have sex?

No I think the girl has to reach puberty before they can be married. I know they can be promised pre-puberty but it would not involve sexual activity. Breach of promise probably is settled by money or goods.

Some tribes might perform extra-judicial executions for such "offenses," but extra-judicial executions are criminal and thus not true lawful killings. Yes, many Muslims nations will execute for adultery, homosexuality, or other forbidden sex acts. But I do not in all fairness believe that the penal code in any nation authorizes the execution of 9 year old girls (or other people) who refuse to have sex or marry.

I take issue with the word 'Retard'. It's grossly offensive towards those who are disabled, and for someone who had a brother who died from a mental and physical disability, I'm extremely offended.

An adult knows what is right and wrong. An adult has the ability to defend themselves, children don't. To execute a child because they refuse to have sex is wrong, plain and simple. I think people who are in favour for the Sharia law should be ashamed. I hope Britian looks at the law and rips it up.
