I heard your USSC justice Souter is going to retire on June. Any Idea about what is going to happen? Souter is liberal isn't he? david souter was appointed be George Herbert Walker Bush in 1990. he was supposed to be a conservative, however has voted mainly with the liberal wing of the SCOTUS. there is pressure to nominate a latino person to the bench. one of the leading contenders that fits this is U.S. Appeals Court Judges Sonia Sotomayor. it will be interesting to see how this plays out. the Democrats, including Barrak Obama as a partial one term Senator, and the great uniter that he is, attempted to filibuster recent SCOTUS judge Samuel Alito's nomination. the Dems and some media are already clammouring for a straight through nomination process, essentially a rubber stamp. a filibuster is basically having one person, or party speak nonstop in the senate until a bill or nomination fails by preventing a vote. this can take days at times. the Democrats are nearly filibuster proof by having a super majority 60 senators out of 100. with this week's Arlen Spector defection from the REP to the Dem party, and Wisconsin's Al Franken election high jacking scandal stealing Sen Norm Colman's seat, they very well may have two years of a super majority.

i'll third that nomination. My vote makes 4, but since I am not a U.S. Senator, my vote does not count.

It counts on the board at least.

If Justice Souter does retire, I think it would be unlikely that President Obama appoints her and even further remote that the senate would confirm her.

Supreme Court Justices do things the way they want pretty much. What was interesting was some have been the opposite of the way people thought they would be... Like Justice Souter. Be interesting to see who they appoint for the job...
But unlike a Justice of the Supreme Court, anyone can run for the Speaker of the House...

Oh, let me tell ya-- Souter has been
the BENEDICT ARNOLD
of everyone who EVER even thought to nominate this wretched son of a b*tch.
He's been nothing less than a complete traitor. Keep in mind that he COULD HAVE CHOSEN to retire far earlier and let the son of the one who nominated him choose a replacement.
INSTEAD? This Massachussetts *jerk*
decided to wait out the election of 2008.....
knowing d*mn well that political parties change hands often.
Arlen Specter and David Souter should have lunch together!
I have it on good faith from one southern senator that we (the Right) will NEVER nominate another jackass from Massachussetts.
Mark my words..... it will NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN.
The MODERN POLITICAL RIGHT... will NEVER.... EVER.... nominate another judge from MASS.
Put me down in 4 inch tall letters, cyberspace!
It will NEVER..... happen.... again.
