Texan rapist and murderer, Derrick Johnson, was put to death yesterday in the death chamber of Texas for the rape and murder of LaTausha Curry. www.click2houston.com/news/19340523/detail.htmlWell, one less POS roaming in society the better. I'm looking forward for more like him to follow his tracks to the ultimate place where they belong.

quote from the article linked above:
"It's my situation," Johnson said, telling his mother to not cry as she sobbed while walking in the Texas death chamber to watch his lethal injection Thursday evening. "Hold tight. It's going to shine on the golden child."
Golden Child? What an odd thing to say.

Maybe it's just me but if I were the one being executed, I sure wouldn't ask my mother to come and watch it. Doesn't this guy think that his mother has had enough sadness because of him?
I guess being concerned about the feelings of others isn't one of this guy's strong points.

It's pretty grisly, and as you say, hasn't he disgraced his family enough without asking a family member to watch him ignomiously croak? A typical psychopath. It was all about him.

I think it's important to note here that the following from this article as well:
Johnson, 28, never acknowledged relatives of his victim, LaTausha Curry, including the woman's father and two sisters. They watched from an adjacent room and declined to speak with reporters following the execution.
Curry, 25, was robbed of less than $10, was driven away in her car, raped, beaten with a two-by-four and suffocated with her own blouse during what authorities determined was part of a two-week crime spree in January 1999 involving Johnson and a companion. During the binge, numerous women were robbed or raped from Dallas to south of Waco, some 100 miles away.
There's nothing good about any of this. What an evil person and I truly wish Ms. Curry and his other victim's peace and that their families will remember these ladies as they were and not give this rat another moment's thought.

Scumbags like him and his defense weasels give people who actually are mentally retarded a bad name. Well said. I've had the pleasure of working with some of the mentally retarded. They are almost always much gentler than those more advantaged. To say mental retardation makes one more prone to violence is, as you say, a slur on these people.

Exactly, also, the idiots claiming mental illness do the same thing for folks suffering with those problems. As with the retarded population, the vast, vast majority of folks diagnosed with a mental illness are not murderers. It's hard to stomach either of those excuses as a significant contributing factor in these DP crimes.

It's hard to stomach either of those excuses as a significant contributing factor in these DP crimes. it is shameful to use excuses that really are invalid. it puts the truly deserving in jeopardy. i lived in a Developmentally Developed home for 5 years. it was both rewarding and frustrating. the personalities were as varied as everyone's fingerprints are unique. the point i'd like to make is that most DD folks, not all, know right from wrong. that doesn't mean they will stop, or can stop, themselves from doing something wrong. and some DD folks need protection and constant supervision in professional facilities. to often due to public funding, it's cheaper to place the really needy in the community.

I wonder if they clean the gurney after each use. I would imagine so. As I understand it they don't make the prey wear a diaper, so there would likely be feces and urine stains if they didn't. Not sure how often they bleach it though.

Lotus Flower posted about an inmate who did not have to wear one. I would imagine they would be given the option.
