from CNN.COM: "...But amid a time of economic turmoil some legislators in Kansas and elsewhere say the price of justice is too high. They have introduced legislation to take the death penalty off the books over financial concerns..." "A bill to abolish the death penalty is also before the Texas legislature, but Harris County District Attorney Pat Lykos intends to proceed with 194 pending death penalty cases she has on the books." www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/03/02/economy.death.penalty/index.html

I would think the DP would be cheaper then having someone sit in prison.

I would think the DP would be cheaper then having someone sit in prison. I'm not convinced that it is more expensive. Studies that claim LWOP is cheaper usually say that trial, room and board for the average inmate for the rest of his life is cheaper than trial, room and board and the appeals process for death row inmates. They leave out that incarcerating an LWOP prisoner convicted of murder is more expensive than incarcerating average inmates because the conditions must be more secure. They also leave out extremely expensive medical care for aging inmates, the appeals process for LWOP inmates and hazard pay for officers guard particularly aggressive inmates. Also, a study from UPI found that many DP states actually saved money because they used the threat of the death penalty to compel guilty pleas at a higher rate than states without the death penalty.

Why don't you read why I got kicked out? We did you failed and then complained. I made the mistake of asking out the grad assistant the head of the department was screwing...and a 2.9 on a second BA is not a bootable crime...he just made it a personal vendetta.

Exactly! They roll all of the "regular" prison sentences together along with with the DP-equivalent inmates and the result is a lower average cost. But since there are many more lower prison sentences in that study, ranging from 15 to 25 to 30 years, it will pull down the average. Yet another tactic of the anti-DP movement of tailoring statistics.

Why don't you read why I got kicked out? why don't you explain why money saved from executing scum (food, clothing, shelter,....)couldn't go towards education just as easily. nobody cares why you got kicked out
