If you were to go onto a site such as YouTube, you can guarantee that most of the comments will be from antis, especially the most popular videos, with anti-DP statements receiving top comments a lot of the time. Many of the statements I've seen can just be broken down into one. Personally, I'm tired of : ''Only God can take someone's life.'' - This statement lacks evidence, be it in biblical texts or otherwise. This statement fails to address the situation of military service or self-defense. If only God can take someone's life, should we abolish the military services and let ourselves get killed if someone is attacking us? There are also Bible verses which permit the death penalty - which goes along the lines of those who shed the blood of man, their blood shall be shed. ''The death penalty is barbaric and/or uncivilized.'' - In many cases this will be followed up with referencing Middle Eastern countries which hold capital punishment, which (though indirectly) says that non-Western societies are 'uncivilized' and 'barbaric' (including Japan and China, where capital punishment is given out quickly and without hassle). This comes across as rather racist and that's why it irks me whenever I see it. They may also ask why we still have capital punishment in the 21st century. The simple reason is because we still have mass killers who are beyond rehabilitation. It's in no way 'progressive' to let criminals rule prisons, be given luxuries and rewards at the expense of taxpayer's money (including the victim's families), and for criminals to be treated better than the elderly and the homeless. ''Cruel and Unusual punishment'' - This is another common one. While I may not be an American citizen myself, I know about the amendments. The 8th ammendment put into context forbids punishment that is disproportionate to the crime, and this was after a man had been convicted of a rather mundane crime, for which the punishment was daily whippings for the rest of his life. The punishment was way too harsh for the crime he committed, which is where the 8th amendment came in to prohibit what was being done. Death via electrocution for instance would be far from cruel and unusual for somebody by the likes of Ted Bundy or Anders Brievik. ''The death penalty doesn't deter criminals.'' - After we abolished the death penalty in the UK, the crimes which would have previously governed the death penalty multiplied. www.capitalpunishmentuk.org/image63.gif If I were to put myself into the mind of a murderer, I wouldn't be afraid of a 'time out' so to speak. Death however is a primal fear that almost every human being has. Nobody really has a primal fear of being forced to live in a comfy, dorm-like cell for 10-20 years. The USA may be different since it takes so long on Death Row, and executions are mainly carried out by lethal injection, which dulls the deterrent effect. In the UK it was handed out quickly and via rope. People feared being hanged.
So those are some statements from antis I'm tired of hearing / debunking. Problem arises when these statements are repeatedly thrown about, as they encourage people to sympathize more with criminals, even going so far as to calling them victims, and ignore the pain of the victim's families. It's actually quite worrying how commonplace it is to care more about the murderer, devoid of any empathy, as a victim, and to encourage the penal system to be even more coddling than it already is, ignoring the skyrocketing crime rates which follow.

I can add a couple more - 'An execution wont bring the victim back'. Well, neither will keeping them in prison, are they going to do away with prisons as well? 'The Death Penalty is just revenge, not justice'. Well, so what? I don't have a problem with that.

John, I was just thinking they left out the ones that really get me upset. Especially "won't bring the victims back". We all know that all too well.

I agree that sentence" won't bring the victims back", bothers me too, & I never lost a loved one thru criminal acts. It to me is like shrugging off the lost of life, like what ya gonna do about it. Keeping them locked up does nothing to prevent them from murdering again, but the DP does.

sanquentinnews.com/new-legislation-changes-inmates-family-visiting-policy/>>The new law adds that effective July 1, inmates could not be prohibited from family visits “based solely on the fact that the inmate was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole or was sentenced to life and is without a parole date established by the Board of Parole Hearings.”<< So prisoners living in a 6 by 10 cell can visit with family members while victims living in 6 by 2 graves cannot? This is one of the reasons I believe in capital punishment. The victim and prisoner both have equal family visits...at the grave site. Also another thought just occurred to me; I don't think many people visit grave sites of executed relatives for the simple fact that they are ashamed of their relatives being executed, but will visit the prisoner at prison because they aren't. Just my opinion.

A murderer's life is really worth something and they're really a very "nice" person.
