I am doing a Pro Death Penalty Classical Argument paper for my college course. The professor is anti - death penalty, and I am trying to find any good solid research that is new or updated that can support my argument. The more I look into it. All I see is that there is nothing proving its deterrance of crime, but when you look at the state of texas, where they do more executions than other states, crime seems to be lower. Where you cant be sure its the "Death Penalty" that keeps crime lower, I would say it is a good part of why it is. She wants proof of my argument and from like 7 sources. Can anyone help me. I have 5 days to get this done...Thank you kindly

For 2012, the average Murder Rate of Death Penalty States was 4.7, while the average Murder Rate of States without the Death Penalty was 3.7 www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/murder-rates-nationally-and-stateOf course, correlation doesn't equal causation. The Chinese execute murderers by the thousands every year and have a very low murder rate, but then so does Denmark, which has no death penalty. The only argument that works is that murderers have it coming. Capital punishment is an expression of ultimate outrage, the ultimate punishment for the ultimate crime.

deterrence is a bogus argument, and should be. execution does deter the murderer from ever killing again, and that is the ONLY deterrence that matters. in the event that the execution did make someone else think twice before they committed murder, that is just icing on the cake, and totally unimportant. it simply doesn't matter whether or not anyone is deterred. the murderer is dead, which is the only morally proper punishment for murder

Having a DP must help some to think twice, also especially TX majority of the good guys( the public is armed) That is a deterence too. Those in the process of a criminal act end up dead. It takes a combination to keep murder rates down. Also criminals end up in killing each other off gangs mentality.
