Hi everyone, I was wondering whether you could help me out. I am in the process of organising a death penalty debate in the UK, and I am finding it extremely difficult to find people who would be willing to take part in the event as panellists in favour of the death penalty (despite the fact that some credible surveys indicate that there is still around 50% support for the death penalty here...). I would be more than grateful if you could recommend me anyone who might be interested in taking part in such an event, and arguing pro death penalty. Thanks a lot!

The UK is a big place; where in the UK are you planning the debate?

Hi Charlene, Thank you for your reply. The debate is taking place in London. I know there are MANY proponents of the death penalty here, just no one seems to want to be willing to take part in that sort of event...

What type of participants do you have from the anti-dp side? Are they activists, legal professionals, etc? If that is the case, it would not really be balanced to just have a "man off the street" type of participant on the pro side. Have you contacted Paul Staines? He is the author of Guido Fawkes blog order-order.com/ and seems to understand the issues quite well. He lives in Ireland but perhaps could participate or recommend someone. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Staineswww.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-14402195

I respectfully disagree Char I think the 'man off the street' is exactly what we need here. The pulse of the nation! A bunch of lawyers arguing back and forth isn't what we need. We need people with enough backbone and will to actually SAY something. Lets face it, the DP wont come back with the usual crowd. You need to stir things up from ground level first.

I feel that you will never get the true percent of how many people are for capital punishment because most people do not want to say "Yes" I believe in it because they fear they will be judged.

Yes I think that to be true, Imsturms. I for one was certainly a little reticent with expressing my views as I'm sure there are many whom may consider them a little extreme perhaps. However a site such as this enables one to vent off!
