"Italy is a firm opponent of capital punishment, which is banned throughout the European Union. Since 1999, the lights illuminating Rome's ancient Colosseum have turned from white to gold every time a death sentence is commuted somewhere in the world or a country abolishes capital punishment." Rome's ancient Colosseum would look like a disco ball illuminating if they blinked it for every victim that is murdered. Good point. Priorities, ya know.

It takes so long because we are civilized and we make certain that the inmate is really guilty of their crime. Yep, even when they plead guilty in the middle of their murder trial like Rolling did.

So are you saying you're basically the same as Rollings? Everything in bawa's post below the link is from the article written by the reporter, Jeff Weinsier, including those last two paragraphs.

Rolling is to be executed Oct. 25. Good! This is one PoS that's lived far too long. The man decapitated one of his victims! Time to go, Danny Boy.

"Frazier, who was born in Dallas and grew up in Galveston, blamed a coerced confession for convincing a jury to convict him of capital murder and decide he should be put to death.
'I'm innocent,' Frazier, also known by his Muslim name, Hasan al-Shakur, said last week from death row near Livingston. 'I wasn't there. I did not commit the crime'."
What a shocka! Another lying psychopath embracing islam. But he does make a perfect fit with the 'religion of peace'. Lie, lie, lie, even when there's a videotaped confession. The only coercion was in his own mind, which again is typical for such removed from reality 'believers' like this prison convert.

The man who changed Halloween forever.... I'm not so sure about that, Char. My trick-or-treating days were before this murder occurred. Yet I remember the changes in trick-or-treating that took place in the 1960's. As a young child, many houses in my neighborhood gave out homemade treats, like brownies, fudge, caramel popcorn balls, candied apples, and the like. But once two stories (urban legends?) made the rounds, the razor blade in the apple and the Ex-Lax given out as chocolate, my Mom made sure that any homemade treats I collected were immediately tossed into the garbage. Now, parents must also toss any treats that are not factory-sealed, not just factory-wrapped. And even that precaution is not perfect as there are ways to poison candy in the factory-sealed package without showing any obvious signs of tampering.

From rayozz' artivle: "Defense lawyers wanted courts to review whether it was possible the child's mother, Tina Gibson, abused her children. They based their claims on an affidavit from a woman who baby-sat Gibson's son in 1999 and said the boy was severely bruised from a beating he blamed on his mother."
New evidence = "it was possible"?
Once convicted, the time for putting forth "possibilities" is over. Only hard evidence will sway an appeals court.

The conference will stay involved in fighting capital punishment, Wosepka said. "We are going to be aggressive in our pursuit of abolition of the death penalty," he said. That's a great idea. Oh wait, he's not talking about the extra-judicial death penalty as applied by murderers to their victims. My mistake. /Need more coffee

Actually it might not happen for a while, since New Jersey they haven't even finished the procedures for conducting executions. that would take a month at most... Jersey's union. It will take at least a month to agree on a procedural manual. Then you have the purchasing department, and all the other nonsense. No, it would take much longer than a month for Jersey to get things all spiffed up and ready to go. With Ross in CT, CT was ready because there was no moratorium in place. Moratoriums really slow down the process, especially in a state that has not had an execution since the '60's. If Jersey's gonna do it, then they're gonna wanta to get it right, or it will be all over for the death penalty in that state forever.

You will not find a credible source here this is after all the PRO death penalty board. They never ever admit that someone may have been wrongfully executed no matter how convincing the evidence. Well, go 'head then, provide us the evidence on even one 'innocent' executed since 1976. That or cut the crap.

Last night's subject was Phillip Jablonski, now on DR in California. Jablonski obtained a scumpal wife in prison, then when he got out, murdered not only her, but her mother, as well. (edit) Did I mention when he married scumpal wifey, he was in the joint for murdering his previous wife? While I always enjoy reading about Darwin Award winners, what I find reprehensible is the risk to which such Darwin Award winners put their real families, like the mother of the Darwin Award winner you mentioned. I also love the fact that he's still offering to help more Darwin Award nominees achieve their Darwinian fate with his 'I'm lonely on death row' and "seeking female teddy bear who is nonjudgmental" ad. (I bet he doesn't want a judgemental scum-pal!) Time for some 'Truth in Advertizing' Laws to be applied to such ridiculous death row scum-pal ads. At least force the placement of the crime for which they were convicted to be included in any such scum-pal requests.

If Va users the chair....I will bow to the north east.....that takes some serious sack! D*mmit, spur, you should know better than to use the descriptive 'north' in connection with Virginia. Bow to the south, man, way down south, toward Patagonia way. /The earth's curviture and gravity will get that bow to Virginia a-okay. But please, not to the north-east. You might get a call from Teddy 'the Swimmer' Kennedy, or some other north-east liberal nightmare, and that would absolutely ruin your health. The heart, ya know -- it can only stand so much.

I expected a more pithy headline like, 'Railroad Killer's' Execution Sidetracked, or 'Railroad Killer's' Execution Derailed. (Wondering where all the good copy writers have gone.) Headline writing is a specialty. The copy writers don't do it. One of my favorites was a guy in an insane asylum who raped a nurse and escaped. The headline? "NUT SCREWS AND BOLTS." The best headline I remember, but not sure whether it was the NYPost or the NYDailyNews, was "Headless Body Found in Topless Bar."

Prison officials stopped Aguilar's statement after several minutes. He was pronounced dead at 6:32 p.m. CDT, seven minutes after he was given a lethal injection.I wonder how they stopped this idiot from talking. Did they just say "that's enough" and start squeezing the bag? They could have turned off the mike that carries the last statement into the witness room. Along with starting the execution process before he finished his "statement," of course. A classic "just shut up and die" execution. Good for ol' Texas.

Or 'French Military Victories'. "Napoleon Complex" really describes the modern Fwench psyche. I can't wait for the History Channel to do a "Modern Marvels" show on French bathing. Hey Rick? How many Frenchmen does it take to defend Paris.............. No one knows because it's never been tried! ;D ;D ;D What did the matre d' at the Paris bistro say to the first German who came into his shop in 1940? Table for 100,000? Right this way, monsieur.

This story just goes to show that the French never miss an opportunity to be, well, Fwench. I would love for an American city to name its sewer system after French polticians, like 'the Jaques Chiraq Memorial Sewer System'. The smell couldn't be any worse than that arising from French hygiene. And the phrase 'sh*t for brains' could be made to fit in somewhere.

Hi Rick, You wrote: Whatever happened to using a chain with an attached 200 pound ball?Actually, the actual size/weight of the balls rarely went over 50 or 60 pounds when one examines them in prison and police museums. Unfortunately, some prisoners found ways to use them as weapons against the guards. Yeah, I know they were lighter than my example. That's why I want to use some sort of weight that is impossible to use as a weapon, except for giving one a hernia.

You can incapacitate murderers short of killing them. Whatever happened to using a chain with an attached 200 pound ball? With LWOP, that first murder is most definitely a freebie. I say that one who murders should face the Wheel of Fortune of Justice. Without the DP, there is no risk, just reward. Well, maybe not a reward to us, but the scum was able to do what he wanted to do, including taking life, and with LWOP now gets to replay it every day for the rest of his life, sustaining and feeding the scum. With LWOP, as opposed to the death penalty, there is no need for a murderer to change, as one is not going anywhere for a long time. But the death penalty can force a change, what with the severe movement restrictions, and the end of the road being shorter. And with the death penalty, as you say, permanent incapacitation is a bonus.

So if it was an act of war, which country does this scum represent, which country does he serve? He is a citizen of France. Are we now at war with France? (The point is open for debate.) I hope not.... But a few years back I nearly thought so. Seeing French Fries renamed as "Freedom Fries" or bottles of precious Bordeaux smashed in the streets did sometimes make me question the intellect of certain people.... There I guiltily agree. What Bordeaux I have was not broken nor throw down the sink (nor opened yet), but I have not bought any French replacements, either (I've gone over to Chianti, a decent substitute for Bordeaux). I just won't drink French for a while, except for champagne. We all have our limits.
