Hi,
I'm not US citizen nor living in USA. I'm portuguese and I live in Portugal. The death penalty is a completly wrong answer from country to criminals. I think family victim's may think in revenge using death penalty but it will bring back anything. A democratic country should not even have life without a parole. In Portugal no one can be in jail for more than 25 years. Our criminal rates are low. USA have a culture of violence and guns this is your issue. Believe any country with a lots of guns and culture of violence have a high criminal tax.
No to vendettas No to death penalty. No guns.
Lets induce culture of peace and put away dangerous people.
Any comments ?

Police mum on cause of death of 7-year-old Florida girl, Somer ThompsonSomer Thompson, who went missing earlier this week, was found dead in a Georgia landfill. Police in Florida are keeping quiet on what exactly killed 7-year-old Somer Thompson, who found dead in a Georgia landfill. "We know the cause of death," said a spokesperson with the Clay County Sheriff's office. "We want to preserve the integrity of this investigation and are not releasing any information that in the long run would prevent us from prosecuting and convicting the person who did this to Somer [Thompson]." Somer, who disappeared while walking the mile home from school on October 19th, was discovered dead days later. The body was found late Wednesday, and local authorities confirmed it was the missing girl the following day. Police tracked garbage trucks that took trash from the neighborhood in which she lived in Orange Park, to the landfill in Folkston, Georgia, according to authorities. Angry that her sister told her to stop arguing with a playmate, Somer ran ahead of the group and was never seen again. Her disappearance triggered a countywide search involving helicopters, dogs and volunteers walking arm-to-arm through wooded areas. Before the grim discovery, Somer's father, Sam Thompson, of Graham, N.C., pleaded for her safe return. "Somer, your daddy Sam loves you unconditionally. Stay strong and don't give up the fight or the hope that we're going to be a family again. I love you," he said. Police have questioned more than 70 registered sex offenders in the area. Florida Department of Law Enforcement records show 161 offenders live in a 5-mile radius of Somer's home. www.nydailynews.com/news/national/2009/10/23/2009-10-23_police_stay_silent_on_somer_thompsons_cause_of_death.html

Elizabeth Olten Body Found, Juvenile in CustodyThe body of missing 9-year-old Elizabeth Olten was found Friday in woods off of Route D in St. Martins, Missouri. Cole County Sheriff Greg White said a juvenile is in custody and is a “person of interest” in Olten’s death. Police have not released details on the person of interest, except to say the individual lived in the area, was acquainted with Elizabeth and was older than her. Elizabeth was last seen around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday leaving a friend’s house. No other details were available. Elizabeth’s disappearance and death came just after a 7-year-old Florida girl was abducted and murdered while walking home from school in Orange Park, Florida. Somer Thompson went missing Monday and was found dead Thursday at a Georgia landfill. www.transworldnews.com/NewsStory.aspx?id=132773&cat=14

Does this apply only for American states or can the rest of the world join in? I stay in South Africa and the people are doing their best to reinstate the Death Penalty because violent murder here are at the order of the day?

Wonder how this jerk is going to like the noisy neighbors in prison....
Angry neighbor held in deadly shooting One man killed, HFD captain gravely wounded over party noise May 3, 2010, 10:57AM New Caney ISD Kelly Danaer was hosting his wife's birthday when he was shot to death.Raul Rodriguez said he opened fire in self-defense, according to police.A man angry about a noisy party opened fire on his Huffman-area neighbors early Sunday, killing a teacher, critically injuring a Houston fire captain and wounding a third man, police officers said. Raul Rodriguez, 44, called authorities late Saturday about the noise at a gathering on his neighbor's 2-acre property in the 300 block of Oak Knoll. He arrived around 12:30 a.m. Sunday at the party with a handgun, flashlight and video camera. “He got it in his head that they were making too much noise, and he decided to take it into his own hands,” Harris County homicide Sgt. Ben Beall said. “The people at the party were minding their own business.” Rodriguez, who acknowledged shooting the men, was charged with murder. He told police the shooting was in self-defense because the men at the party rushed him. Rodriguez sustained a fracture to his ankle after being tackled by partygoers, authorities said. “He had more than ample opportunity to retreat,” Beall added. Kelly Danaher, 36, who was hosting a birthday party for his wife, was killed. He was a physical education teacher at Sorters Mill Elementary School in New Caney. "New Caney ISD is shocked and deeply saddened over the tragic death of Kelly Danaher. He was a P.E. teacher at Sorters Mill Elementary, but to the faculty, staff and students at the school, he was a family member. His students loved him. Coworkers gravitated toward Danaher’s positive energy and encouragement," the district said today in a written statement. " Senior HFD Capt. Ricky Johnson, 43, remains in critical condition today at Ben Taub General Hospital. “He sustained a gunshot to his lower abdomen,” assistant fire chief Karen DuPont said. “They're just waiting for him to stabilize so they can go back in and do surgery, and that might take a couple days,” DuPont said. Johnson, recently promoted to captain at Station 74, comes from a family of firefighters, including his father and uncle. He is married with two daughters. Fellow HFD firefighter David Boudreaux describes his friend as smart and playful. He's an avid fisher and hunter. Close friend and firefighter Eric Kellum, 31, said Johnson is gifted at saving lives and with putting firefighters at ease during stressful times. “When it comes to our job, we see a lot of crazy stuff. Ricky uses his humor to help us handle bad situations,” Kellum said. Kellum added: “He's a fighter and hard-headed. He'll pull through this.” The third man, shot in the leg, was treated and released from an area hospital.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Two men wanted for murders committed out of state were found in a house in the Charles neighborhood Saturday afternoon.
Police were searching for Gilberto Marrero-Alejandro, 26, who was accused of shooting and killing 22-year-old Jose Cruz-Diaz in Bristol, Conn., on Aug. 15. Bristol police had traced Cruz-Diaz to a house at 58 Commodore St. on Saturday and asked Providence police for help, said Providence police Maj. Thomas F. Oates III.
The search for one accused killer also led police to capture another -- Hector X. Vazquez-Alejandro, 24, who was wanted for a homicide in Puerto Rico and happened to be staying at the Commodore Street house, Oates said.
Marrero-Alejandro was in the back yard when the Providence police arrived at the house just before 1 p.m., Oates said. Marrero-Alejandro saw the officers and ran inside the back door, with patrolmen Matthew Nadeau and Joseph R. Hanley III at his heels. Patrolman John Reposa ran to the open front door, but a resident slammed it shut, Oates said. Reposa forced his way into the house.
Inside were the two wanted men, plus a safe containing marijuana, packaging material, and two gun magazines, Oates said.
Marrero-Alejandro was arrested on the warrant for homicide from the Bristol police. Vazquez-Alejandro was found to have a warrant for homicide from Puerto Rico and a warrant from Broward County (Fla.) sheriff's office for a probation violation on grand theft. Authorities in Puerto Rico and Broward County said they would have Vazquez-Alejandro extradited to face those charges, Oates said.
The homeowner gave the police consent to search, and the officers found the drugs, ammunition, and a bag of cocaine, according to a police report. Vazquez was also charged with possession with intent to deliver cocaine and marijuana. Radamel Torres, 21, who had slammed the front door closed, was charged with possession of cocaine, Oates said.
Marrero-Alejandro was charged by Providence police as a fugitive from justice and was expected to be arraigned at 6th District Court Monday.

Providence police detectives have released the identity of a woman found dead Sunday night in the city’s first homicide of the year.
The victim was Annmarie Nardolillo, said Capt. James Desmarais. “It was an obvious homicide,” Demarais said.
Officers who responded to the woman’s house at 71 Bellevue Ave. about 8:30 p.m. Sunday found her dead on a couch.
Witnesses were interviewed, and the police “are exploring a suspect,” Desmarais said.

Bodies of mom, son found in Brockton dumpsterA 25-year-old mom and her 2-year-old boy were found dumped in a dumpster behind their apartment building on Warren Avenue. A neighbor says police told her a body was found stuffed in a duffle bag and placed in the dumpster. The DA wouldn’t confirm that. The mother has been identified as Maria Avelina Palaguachi-Cela, believed to be an immigrant from South America. Police received an anonymous 911 call about 9:30 p.m. Sunday night, some twelve hours before the scheduled trash pickup. Somebody searching for items in the dumpster found the woman’s remains. “They had found a body of a lady approximately 25-years-old,” said Francis Kiranga, neighbor. “They told us they found a young woman’s body stuffed in a duffle bag in the dumpster,” said Denise Agnello, neighbor. The DA says after finding the mother’s body they made yet another gruesome discovery. “In the dumpster was also an additional body of her toddler son, Brian Palaguachi, date of birth: 3/17/2008” said Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz. “At this point there’s nobody in custody, and at this point nobody’s under arrest. They are working very hard right now to come to a determination of whoever did this heinous crime.” www1.whdh.com/news/articles/local/12003541054783/bodies-of-mom-son-found-in-brockton-dumpster/ Slain Brockton mom and son died from head injuries, prosecutors sayThe mother and son whose bodies were found stuffed in a duffel bag and thrown into a trash dumpster in Brockton both died from blows to the head, according to Plymouth District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz's office. Maria Avelina Palaguachi-Cela and the body of her son, Brian - who would have turned 3 next month -- were discovered Sunday night in the trash bin behind the Warren Avenue home where the victims had been living, authorities have said. Today, Cruz's office said in a statement that the state medical examiner's office has determined that Palaguachi-Cela and her son both died from "blunt force trauma to the brain and head" and that they both had been murdered. No arrests have been made, prosecutors said today. Now, authorities are searching for him in the killings of a Brockton woman and her toddler son, whose bodies were found in a trash bin Sunday night outside their Warren Avenue apartment in Brockton. Meanwhile, the roommate of the slain Brockton mother heard her tell another man she did not love him sometime before she and her toddler son were found dead in a trash bin outside their Warren Avenue apartment, prosecutors said in court Wednesday. Aparicio Velencia De La Cruz, 34, of 427 Warren Ave., then withheld information as to the whereabouts of the other man -- identified in court as Luis Guaman -- as police searched for him in their investigation into the deaths of Maria Avelina Palaguachi-Cela, 25, and her son, Brian Palaguachi, 2. Prosecutors say Guaman told De La Cruz that he was headed to his native Ecuador. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement has been searching for him. Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Suspect arraigned in killing outside Providence strip club
By Amanda Milkovits
Journal Staff Writer PROVIDENCE –– Paulo Jorge “Bendjo” Barbosa had nothing to do with the fight that spilled out of the Club Balloons strip club before dawn last July. The 29-year-old Pawtucket man was talking with a young woman near someone’s SUV in the parking lot, the police say, when a stranger in the fight sprayed him with bullets and left him to die.
Friday morning, Barbosa’s large family and friends packed into a courtroom in District Court, at last seeing someone face a judge for the murder. Tyrone Taylor is 22, a Providence man the police say didn’t even know the person he’s accused of killing.
For Barbosa’s family, the arrest was a long time coming, and they were grateful to the detectives who investigated the murder. Outside the courtroom, they were in tears as they gathered around one of them, Detective Kenneth Court.
“He did a wonderful job,” said Nelson Barbosa, 40, one of the slain man’s brothers. “He stuck to his word, and we appreciate it.”
The police are now seeking a second man in connection with Barbosa’s murder. Police Maj. Thomas Oates III wouldn’t identify the suspect but said he’ll be charged with conspiracy, harboring, and aiding and abetting in the murder.
Taylor, who was arrested by the state police violent fugitive task force Thursday, said little in the court. He was ordered held without bail on murder and five other firearms charges. The state police are also charging him with intent to deal cocaine.
Outside the courtroom, his lawyer said Taylor contended he had nothing to do with the murder. “A lot of people were there that night,” said Scott Lutes, a defense lawyer in Providence. “Some people who are pointing fingers have incentives — they have prior charges against them.”
The police disputed that. Witnesses told the police about seeing Taylor take a gun from another man and conceal it with a blood-stained shirt, then firing six to eight shots at several people, according to the affidavit.
“The key to all of these cases is getting witnesses to cooperate,” said Oates. “It took a lot of time and a lot of convincing for people to come forward.”
Detectives Court and Daniel O’Connell and Sgt. William Dwyer investigated the murder.
The melee and murder led the city license board to yank all of the licenses for Club Balloons, closing the Allens Avenue strip club last August. A fight between two rival factions began just before the 5 a.m. closing and continued outside. A bottle was thrown, and then a man pulled out a gun.
“God is big,” said Nelson Barbosa. “We waited so long for justice, and it’s coming close. That’s what we want, for justice to be done.”
Barbosa was a Cape Verdean citizen, who arrived here with his family when he was 2 years old, the 11th of 12 siblings.
He grew up in the Woodlawn section of Pawtucket and became an amateur boxer, said Daniela Barbosa, a sister. He was the 1998 Junior Olympics world heavyweight champion and received a municipal proclamation from then-Mayor James Doyle. Barbosa learned to box at the Barton Street Community Center, and he enjoyed teaching others, including his 18-year-old nephew, Danielson “Jayvon” Barbosa.
Since his uncle’s murder, Danielson said, he hasn’t wanted to box. His uncle had been his best friend. “I gave up on that when he was gone,” Danielson Barbosa said. “He was the perfect trainer. He taught me everything I needed to know.”

Suspect gets 15 yrs in Brown deadly DUI Daniel Gilcreast enters nolo contendre plea
Updated: Wednesday, 27 Apr 2011, 7:57 PM EDT Published : Wednesday, 27 Apr 2011, 5:18 PM EDT
Reporting by Nneka Nwosu PROVIDENCE, R.I (WPRI) - A North Providence man accused of driving drunk, and killing a Brown University student has learned his punishment.
On Wednesday, Daniel Gilcreast, 24, pleaded nolo no contest before a Superior Court judge to charges of DUI death resulting and DUI serious bodily injury in the February 12, 2010 accident that killed Avi Schaefer and injured Marika Baltscheffski.
According to police Schaefer, 21, a freshman at Brown and his girlfriend, Baltscheffsky, 19, were at the side of Hope and Thayer Streets when they were hit by a 2010 Suburu Forester. Schaefer was killed. Baltscheffsky, an exchange student from Sweden, was taken to Rhode Island Hospital where she was treated and released.
Police said Gilcreast initially refused to take a test for alcohol. That's when investigators put a new Rhode Island law into play, and obtained a warrant to take a blood sample from the suspect.
In court on Wednesday, Schaefer's mother, Lori Schaefer, reflected on the life of her son. She called him one of her greatest creations.
"I still see his shining face, his penetrating eyes, Avi's compassionate spirit, always beaming through." she said.
Gilcreast also spoke before the court. He said that this accident does not reflect who he is, and that he is not a murderer. But, he said that he accepts the consequences for his actions.
Gilcreast was sentenced to 15 years, with eight to serve for the DUI death resulting, and 10 years, with eight to serve for the DUI serious bodily injury. The sentences are to run concurrent. Gilcreast was also sentenced to a five year loss of license upon release, mandatory DUI school and counseling, and restitution.

Happened in Detroit, but the victim was an Australian THE MAN accused of shooting dead Australian property developer Greg McNicol is a millionaire lottery winner. In a bizarre twist to the tragic death of Mr McNicol in Detroit, police said that suspect Freddie Young won a $US1.8 million slice of $US93 million Mega Millions lottery. Mr Young allegedly shot Mr McNicol during an argument over just a few hundred dollars in overdue rent money Mr Young's daughter owed. "It didn't make any sense," Lieutenant Dwane Blackmon, commanding officer of the Detroit Police Department's homicide division, said. "I guess he just let his anger take over." Mr Young did not have a criminal record, but Lieutenant Blackmon said interviews with family members indicated he had a "violent temper". Mr Young was arrested on Saturday and during questioning confessed to the murder, Lieutenant Blackmon said. (The XXXX represent the name of the likely killer) . Kyla Rogers,XXXXXXXXX dead after murder of Tania Simpson and a man in Gold Coast unit By Greg Stolz and Alison Sandy From: The Courier-Mail May 17, 2011 12:00AM Abducted Gold Coast girl found deadA girl abducted from a Gold Coast unit, the scene of a likely double murder, has been found dead. POLICE have defended the length of time they took to put out a child abduction alert for Gold Coast girl Kyla Rogers, saying they believe she was killed soon after she was abducted by her father. The bodies of Kyla, who police earlier named as Kayla, and her father Paul, 40, were found in a car in northern NSW after a double murder at Robina on the Gold Coast on Sunday night. Police last night said: "With great sadness we advise that the New South Wales Police Force have located a vehicle with the deceased bodies of a five-year-old girl and a man in a car just outside of Casino." Kyla's mother Tania Simpson, 31, and a 33-year-old man described by police as a family friend, were found stabbed to death in Ms Simpson's Robina apartment on Monday morning. Kyla celebrated her fifth birthday on Sunday. On Monday morning Kyla's maternal grandfather, arrived to take her to school. She found her daughter Tania Simpson, 31, and a 33-year-old man described by police as a family friend, stabbed to death in Ms Simpson's Robina apartment. Start of sidebar. Skip to end of sidebar. Related Coverage.Baby death: Remains mystery ..End of sidebar. Return to start of sidebar. ..Kyla's 20-month old brother is now an orphan, saved only because he spent Sunday night with his grandparents. Acting regional crime co-ordinator Inspector Tim Trezise said police were 'gutted' at her death. "It's just a waste, all these people dying, but particularly an innocent child like this one," he told a media conference at Gold Coast police headquarters today. The child abduction alert for Kyla was not issued until about 3.15pm yesterday but Insp Trezise said he did not believe it could have been issued any earlier. He said police could not issue the alert until they had firm information and were also using mobile phone tracking to try to locate Mr Rogers and Kyla alive. However, he said it was "completely possible" they were dead before the bodies were found at Robina yesterday morning. Insp Trezise said evidence found at the unit indicated Kyla may have slept through the double murder. The local area commander at Richmond in northern NSW, Superintendent Greg Martin, would not say whether Rogers left a note before dying in the car with his daughter. "It's probably improper that I flush out all of the details of the investigation through the media when it's the coroner that should be finding all this out first," Supt Martin said. But he said Kyla would most certainly have died first. "That's obviously one of our lines of inquiry," he said. "It's obviously a desperate act of a desperate individual and who knows how their mind was working at the time," Supt Martin said. "But I can't understand how someone can do that as a father, it's beyond me." Neighbours in shock Ms Simpson was described by one neighbour as a single mum who had only recently taken over as the resident manager of the Arbour Avenue apartments. Other neighbours said they heard yelling coming from the unit block overnight. They were shocked to see carloads of police arrive about 8am and hear reports of a possible double murder in their quiet, leafy neighbourhood. "It's very disturbing," said one neighbour, Shirley Darrington. "We heard some yelling last night but didn't think too much more of it 'til my daughter (who lives on the same street) rang this morning telling me to look outside. "I got a shock when I saw all the police. It's very sad that it's come to this." Mrs Darrington said she had seen the male occupant of the unit on the front lawn only a couple of days ago .. Shooting death called a tragic acciden Drug addicted man fired gun, killing Attleboro woman, after being spooked by cat, lawyer says FALL RIVER - A man accused of killing his friend's mother in Attleboro in 2009 was addicted to pain killers and accidentally blasted the 62-year-old woman with a shotgun when he stepped on a pet cat and was spooked, his lawyer argued Tuesday.
But a prosecutor depicted Aaron Carney as a cold-blooded killer who shot a defenseless Elizabeth Fontaine as she lay in bed, then stole her pain pills and told two friends about the killing, including Fontaine's only son Kenneth.
The two sides of Carney, 31, who lived part-time at the victim's house at 39 Emory St. in Attleboro, were presented to a 16-member jury in Fall River Superior Court on the opening day of the murder trial, which is now expected to end Friday.
In a 20-minute opening statement, Assistant District Attorney Jack Stapleton told the jury Carney killed Elizabeth Fontaine when her son was away working the weekend of Oct. 3 through Oct. 5, 2009, then drove to a friend's house in Rhode Island, where he cooly admitted to the murder.
After lighting a cigarette, Carney told a friend, Gerald Knight: "Dude, I got something to tell you. I killed Ken's mother," Stapleton told the jury. Knight is expected to testify later in the trial.
The conversation occurred on a Sunday afternoon, about 24 hours before Kenneth Fontaine discovered his mother's lifeless body and before Carney called Fontaine and apologized for the killing in a telephone call with Attleboro Detective Sgt. Arthur Brillon listening in, according to testimony.
Struggling at times to keep his emotions under control during an hour of testimony, Kenneth Fontaine said he asked Carney questions, some of them prompted by Brillon.
"I had asked him why. He said he didn't remember it. He saw it in flashes. I told him I knew money was an issue. He asked if he should turn himself in, or disappear and get rid of the gun," Fontaine testified, adding that he told Carney to turn himself in.
Prosecutors allege Carney shot Elizabeth Fontaine with a shotgun Kenneth Fontaine got while a teenager to go hunting with his cousins.
He said at some point before his mother's killing he noticed the gun was missing from his bedroom closet, but never reported it to police. Fontaine also admitted to taking his mother's pain medication for migraine headaches and to giving the prescription narcotic OxyContin to Carney, despite Carney's attempts to quit.
Fontaine said he continued to give Carney the pills because he couldn't bare to see him suffer withdrawal symptoms.
Fontaine also testified the Bristol County District Attorney's Office has agreed not to prosecute him for giving Carney the pills.
But while the prosecution is attempting to depict Carney as a premeditated killer, his lawyer, Robert Jubinville of Milton, said his client was hopelessly addicted to OxyContin, which ultimately led to the tragic killing of Elizabeth Fontaine.
"This is not first-degree murder in no shape, way or form," Jubinville told the jury in his opening statement, describing a scene in which Elizabeth Fontaine was shot after struggling with Carney.
"In the throes of addiction, he wanted the OxyContin pills. She grabbed the barrel. He panicked, stepped back and stepped on a cat and the gun went off," Jubinville said.
Two Attleboro police officers who were first on the scene, Yuri Bukhenik and Robert Miller, testified they saw no sign of a struggle when they arrived on the scene.
But in his testimony, Fontaine said the household had four cats, two which belonged to him and his mother, which were kept on the first floor with his mother. Two others belonged to Carney and were kept on the second floor, he said, but occasionally jumped a gate and fought with the other two cats.
Fontaine is expected to continue testifying today before being cross-examined by Jubinville.

Hi, I'm not US citizen nor living in USA. Aarango....you may be correct that today's American's are more violent, and prone to murder, that citizens of Portugal. We have freedom here, we are allowed to defend ourselves. Our government is only our SECOND line of defense. Most European countries simply have sheep for citizens, who compliantly depend on their government to protect their homes & family. However, your premise that Portugal has no serial killers is rediculous. books.google.com/books?id=d35UbwAACAAJ&dq=portuguese+serial+killers&hl=en&ei=4KtnTtuEKKSRsAL68YTvDQ&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1&sqi=2&ved=0CC4Q6AEwAAWhat Portugal has, is a nation of victims, not allowed to defend themselves. America is a vibrant, energetic country of individualists...our fabulously successful economic system of Capitalism reflects this. Unfortunatly, so does our murder rate....reflect our passionate individual nature. Disarming our law-abiding citizens....is not the answer here. It is the ONLY logical answer for socialist, collective-thinking countries. Y'all enjoy your "ant-hill" mentality.....we sure enjoy our freedom, success, passion & inventiveness.
