I'd like to try something and I'm curious how quickly this thread would grow. We have an incredible range of geographic locations among the members of this board. I'm asking you to scan your local news web sites and simply post the name and location of people who were murdered in your community this week.
Regardless of your stance on the issue of capital punishment, the number of murders occurring on a daily basis across the world is staggering and sobering.
You can post the date of the murder in the body of the post and a link to the news article if you like, or any additional information including a photo if available. Please include simply their name, age (if available) and location in the subject line.
Use a separate post for each case.
Please respect the intent of this thread and do not use this thread to make a political statement about the war. Please do not list soldiers killed in battle here.
Death row inmates are not murder victims and do not belong here.
Edited to add: We should post just the basic info about the case in the thread, rather than a complete news article. I don't want to duplicate what already occurs in the News Articles forums. Let's just include a synopsis of what is known about the murder at this time, and a link to the article for those who want further details.

A chiropractor friend of mine works around the corner from this store. He knew the owner very well and had just seen him that morning to schedule an appointment for him. DAYTON — Generous and kind were just two of the words grief-stricken neighbors of the Covault Market and Coin Laundry, 3705 Wayne Ave., used to described owner Roger Covault. Covault, 71, and an employee, Robert T. Harris, 53, were gunned down in an apparent robbery. Two men arrested in the double slaying, identified as Brandon Phillips, 18, of 1820 Coventry Road, and Michael Purdue, 20, of 1926 Suman Ave., were being held in the Montgomery County Jail pending the filing of formal charges. www.daytondailynews.com/n/content/oh/story/news/local/2007/08/21/ddn082207shootinginside.html

This wasn't in my area but I saw this on Yahoo. It happened in Wisconsin.A gunman in camouflage killed a former co-worker inside a Wisconsin factory early Monday, then committed suicide in the sprawling building. Police identified the shooter as Shadow Yang, 40, and the victim as Christina Wollenzien, 28. Both lived in Sheboygan. Wollenzien was an assembly line worker in Rockline Industries' coffee filter division and had worked in the same area as Yang until about a year ago, a company official said. She was on the job Monday when she was shot to death around 4:30 a.m., police Lt. Michael Williams said. Her attacker fired one shot, hitting her in the abdomen; then, when she tried to get away, he shot her in the head. news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070910/ap_on_re_us/factory_shooting;_ylt=Ans9WuIs79TGnjTz8oThFrBG2ocA Open the link to read the entire article.

A northwest Harris County woman told investigators that she fatally shot her husband out of fear for her own safety. When deputies arrived just after midnight at the couple's home, Angela Espinosa, 34, told them that she had been a victim of domestic abuse at the hands of her husband, Jaime Espinosa, 40. The couple's three daughters, 11, 13 and 15, were asleep inside the home when Jaime Espinosa was slain. Angela Espinosa was charged today with murder.
