Everyone on this website, I am currently a junior in high school, and i am writing a research paper on why the death penalty should still be practiced in California. Some people in our government idiodically questioned if the death penalty is right. Even some citizens disagree with the death penalty. The judicial system in this state and country has fallen far away from the principles on which it was founded. Why do you agree/disagree with the death penalty, and why? And if you are against the death penalty, read the quote by John McAdams on the home page, and actually USE COMMON SENSE. Thank you for your time and help.

Works for me:
"If we execute murderers and there is in fact no deterrent effect, we have killed a bunch of murderers. If we fail to execute murderers, and doing so would in fact have deterred other murders, we have allowed the killing of a bunch of innocent victims. I would much rather risk the former. This, to me, is not a tough call."
John McAdams - Marquette University/Department of Political Science, on deterrence

Another great comment of his:
"That inequity in the application of the death penalty requires its abolition is an argument that will be made only by people who do not like it for other reasons. The inequity argument is a pretext, not a reason. Between an inequitable death penalty and no death penalty, I would prefer an inequitable death penalty, just as I would prefer an inequitable tax system to no tax system, and inequitable policing to no policing. I say this because I think it likely that executions deter murders, and it is clear that a majority of Americans-white and black-think that justice requires executions for the most heinous crimes."
